* Record entering the weekend
TAMPA (April 7, 2022) – The University of South Florida men's tennis team continues its season-ending four-match road stretch this weekend as the Bulls head to America's Heartland for critical back-to-back nationally ranked matches. South Florida will begin the weekend at No. 75 Wichita State on Friday at 2 p.m. ET and close out the trip on Sunday at No. 40 Tulsa at 4 p.m.
The Bulls come into the weekend looking to extend their two-match winning streak following a convincing 5-2 win at No. 58 Tulane on April 3.
In singles,
Alvin Tudorica has put together nothing short of a dominant campaign and looks to keep that going into the weekend. Tudorica is 13-2 on the year and is currently riding a 12-match win streak. Tudorica is a perfect 12-0 on court four (3-0) and court five (9-0).
Sergio Gomez Montesa (10-6) and
Antonio Muniz (10-8) have both recorded double-digit wins on the year. Gomez Montesa is 2-0 on court three and 3-0 on court five, while Muniz is 8-6 on court three.
On the doubles side, the Bulls' top tandem of
Bruno Oliveira and
Rithvik Bollipalli is one of the best teams in the country. The duo, ranked No. 29 in the nation, are 9-5 on the season – all coming on court one – and have played a key role in every victory this season.
In No. 3 doubles, the duo of Tudorica and Gomez Montesa are 11-5 on the year and are riding a three-match win streak.
Scouting No. 75 Wichita State
The Shockers enter Friday's match with the Bulls with a 12-10 record following a 4-1 win over Temple on April 3.
In singles play, Wichita State finds success through flexibility. All but one player has played at least three games on a minimum of two courts, while four players have amassed double-digit wins on the season.
Nicolas Acevedo is 12-6 on the year, playing primarily on court one (7-3) and court two (5-3). Kristof Minarik leads the team in wins logging a 13-5 record while being perfect on courts two (3-0) and three (6-0).
In doubles play, Luka Mrsic and Orel Ovil are 7-2 on the season, while Minarik and Alex Richards are 10-5.
Scouting No. 40 Tulsa
The Golden Hurricane enter the weekend 11-7 on the year heading into their match with Central Florida on Friday. Tulsa is coming off a 4-2 loss to Oklahoma State on April 3, its third-straight setback. Before its current skid, the Golden Hurricane had won seven out of eight matches.
In singles, two players have recorded 15 wins this season. Ezequiel Santalla is 15-12 on the year while Connor DiMarco is 15-5. Santalla has played primarily on court two (6-8) while DiMarco has seen action on court four (4-1) and court five (8-1).
Kody Pearson, currently ranked No. 96 in the latest ITA rankings, is 11-5 overall and 10-4 on court one.
In doubles play, DiMarco and Pearson are Tulsa's top pair with a 7-5 record, including a 5-3 mark on court one.
Tulsa is heavily reliant on the performance of their No. 3 doubles teams. The Hurricanes have a 12-6 record on the year in No. 3 doubles, compared to a 12-11 record on the other two courts combined.
