Tampa, Fla., April 7, 2022 – The University of South Florida track and field team returns to the USF Track and Field Stadium this weekend to host its only meet of the 2022 season in the South Florida Invitational.
"We are set to host a quality meet this weekend," head coach
Erik Jenkins said. "We have competitive teams from all Divisions prepared to compete over the next two days. I am looking forward to welcoming alumni, recognizing our seniors and watching our current student athletes compete."
The Bulls return marks the first meet since the stadium had its track resurfaced earlier this season and the team's first home meet since the 2021 American Athletic Conference Outdoor Championships last season.
Eron Carter (Palatka, Fla.) starts the weekend on Friday at noon in the men's hammer throw. He's the school record holder in the event, tossing a 193-3 earlier this season.
David Ajama (Lowell, Mass.) and
Victor Steiner (La Libertao, El Salvador) compete for the Bulls in the long jump at 1 p.m., while
Stone Baker (New Port Richey, Fla.) and
Kobe Babin (Niceville, Fla.) jump in the pole vault at the same time.
Johann Jeremiah (St. George's, Grenada) represents South Florida in the shot put at 2 p.m., followed by
Romaine Beckford (Portland, Jamaica) and
Kendell Mosley (Niceville, Fla.) in the high jump and Ajama's second competition of the day in the triple jump, where he currently holds the third-best jump in school history. Wrapping up the day for field events is Jeremiah and Carter in the discus.
The men's 4x100 relay team kicks off track events at 4:20 p.m. on Friday, followed by
Michael Bourne III's (Midlothian, Va.) competition in the 110-meter hurdles. Bourne currently ranks 10
th all-time at USF in the 110 hurdles.
Monte Parker (Platnation, Fla.),
Elijah Wright (Naples, Fla.) and
Joshua St. Clair (Trinidad and Tobago) represent the green and gold in the 400-meter dash at 4:45 p.m., followed by
Danelson Mahautiere (Roseau, Dominica) in the 100-meter dash at 5 p.m.
Friday's competition wraps up at 6:05 p.m. with the 400 relay and the 10,000 meters at 8:30 p.m.
On Saturday, the women's competition starts in full-force with
Ameilya Richardson (Cape Coral, Fla.) representing the Bulls in the hammer throw at 11 a.m., followed by a five-person USF contingent in the women's long jump at 1 p.m.
Loren Johnson (Orange Park, Fla.) wraps up the day's field events at 3:30 p.m. in the triple jump. She currently ranks seventh all-time at USF with a best jump of 40-3.25 earlier this season.
The track events for the day again starts with the women's 100 relay at 4:20 p.m.
Shaneylix Davila (Kissimmee, Fla.) and
Chakiya Plummer (Hoover, Ala.) help lead the Bulls in the 100 hurdles at 4:35 p.m., followed by
Kadesha Prescott (Port of Spain, Trinidad and Tobago) in the 100 meter dash at 5:05 p.m.
Shaniya Benjamin (Tampa, Fla.) leads a six-member USF field in the 200 meters at 5:45 p.m., followed by the 400 relay at 6:20 p.m. to close the weekend.
The Bulls will also recognize their seniors during the weekend. Davila,

Justin Bridgewater (West Palm Beach, Fla.),
Tyler Dunigan (Sarasota, Fla.), Mikhail Kakoulin,
Dalton Morley (Tampa, Fla.) and
Jacob Hensley (Inverness, Fla.) will all be honored for their contributions to the program on Saturday at 3 p.m.
About USF Track and Field
The USF track and field team has earned 53 All-America selections and at least one All-American in 10 of the last 12 years, including a record eight athletes claiming 11 honors in 2021. Tampa native Shaniya Benjamin set a program record earning three All-American honors during the 2021 outdoor season, while triple jumper Matthew O'Neal, a 2016 graduate, became USF's first six-time NCAA All-American. Bulls have posted two NCAA runner-up finishes since 2013 - O'Neal (triple jump, 2016) and Courtney Anderson (high jump, 2013). Head coach Erik Jenkins took over the program in 2020 and in the 2021 outdoor season the Bulls posted seven program records and 40 top 10 all-time program marks. USF hosted the 2018 NCAA Track and Field East Preliminary and the 2021 AAC Outdoor Championship at the USF Track and Field Stadium located on the east end of campus.
