TAMPA (May 6, 2022) – With the NCAA Tallahassee Regional just days away, University of South Florida sophomore Melanie Green (Medina, N.Y.) took her preparation to the next level.

On Wednesday, Green qualified for the 2022 U.S. Women's Open by shooting six-under-par and placing second at the qualifying event hosted at Forest Country Club in Fort Myers. The U.S. Women's Open will be played at Pine Needles Lodge & Golf Club in Southern Pines, N.C. on June 2-5.

First up for Green though is the NCAA Tallahassee Regional on May 9-11 at Seminole Legacy Golf Club. Green earned an at-large bid to the event after a stellar sophomore campaign and is the No. 2 individual at the Tallahassee Regional. She is expected to tee off the opening round on Monday, May 9 at 9:50 a.m. on the first hole.

"We're thrilled to be making our way to Tallahassee for a challenging test of golf," said head coach Erika Brennan. "Melanie has represented our program with such a commitment to excellence and now it's time to enjoy every moment of the postseason. She has been preparing in really smart ways and we have every confidence in her ability to succeed. It's going to be a fun week of golf!"

Green will head to the Tallahassee Regional looking to add to her already record-breaking season where she was named to the American All-Conference Team for the second time in as many years. Her 19 rounds of par or better and 102 total birdies in 2021-22 are both new single-season program records. Green carries a 71.64 scoring average into the event which is also poised to become a new single-season record.

During her sophomore season, Green earned a top-10 finish in seven of her 10 outings, including her first collegiate win at the Trinity Forest Invitational in March where she was just one of two players to shoot even par at the event.

Green opened the 2021-22 season by carding a program record score of 205 at the USA Intercollegiate which including an opening-round score of 65 (-7) to also set a new program record for round vs. par. She helped lead South Florida to a fifth-place team finish at the AAC Championship by finishing sixth individually for her second top-10 finish at the conference championship tournament in her young career.

Tallahassee is one of six regional sites with 12 teams each along with six individuals (36 total). The top four teams and two individuals from each regional will advance to the NCAA Championship at Grayhawk Golf Club in Scottsdale, Arizona on May 20-25.
