TAMPA (September 1, 2022) – The University of South Florida Bulls (1-2) hit the road for the first time in the 2022 season for three matches this weekend at the Stony Brook Innovational in New York.
South Florida will open play with two matches on Friday, beginning with host Stony Brook (2-0) at 10 a.m. followed by a 4 p.m. match against Georgetown (0-3). The Bulls wrap up the tournament against Maryland (2-1) on Saturday at 10:30 a.m.
USF opened the 2022 campaign at home last weekend with a sweep over William & Mary and a pair of close hard-fought losses. The Bulls dropped a five-set thriller to (RV) Ball State and fell in four sets, two which required extra points, to (RV) South Alabama.
Freshman Maria Clara Andrade paced the USF offense last weekend in her collegiate debut with 45 kills over three matches, including a high of 23 against Ball State. She posted a double-double in two matches last weekend while collecting 27 total digs.
Sophomore Amanda DeWitt floored 37 kills and matched a career high with 16 vs. South Alabama. Marta Cvitkovic and Tizi Puljiz each recorded 29 kills last weekend.
CC Clausen led the back row defense with 65 digs and enters this weekend needing just 53 more to set a new USF career record for digs.
Ally Barnhart (11), Amiree Hendricks-Walker (10) and DeWitt (9) were the top blockers last weekend.

Head coach Jolene Shepardson enters her third season at the helm of her alma mater in 2022. Named head coach on Jan. 8, 2020, Shepardson led the Bulls' program to its last conference championship and NCAA tournament appearance as a student-athlete in 2002. USF made its last postseason appearance in 2018, posting 20 wins and appearing in the NIVC. USF Volleyball has made seven NCAA Tournament appearances and won 12 conference titles since its inception in 1972 and is entering its 50th campaign in 2021-22. The Bulls play in The Corral (1,000), adjacent to the Yuengling Center on the USF campus.
