TAMPA (Sept. 12, 2022) – The University of South Florida men's tennis team began its 2022 fall schedule this past weekend at the Orlando Fall Shootout at the USTA National Tennis Campus in Lake Nona, Fla.
Â
With the fall season traditionally focused on individual results, the Bulls saw impressive play across the board from their returnees and newcomers to the roster despite extremely hot and humid conditions.
Â
Davide Tortora got his South Florida career off to an impressive start by being named the individual singles winner. A senior transfer from Mississippi State, Tortora went 4-1 on the weekend in both singles and doubles, and recorded a 3-0 mark in singles. Included in his singles win was a 3-6, 6-1, 6-4 victory over ITA preseason No. 72-ranked Raphael Perot from Texas A&M.
Â
Senior Georgia transfer,
Erik Grevelius, also had a strong showing in his Bulls debut going 2-0 in singles and 1-1 in doubles play.
Â
Two significant pieces to South Florida's NCAA Tournament team from last year,
Alvin Tudorica and
Bruno Oliveira, returned to the court in the Green and Gold and stood out in both singles and doubles play.
Â
Tudorica was 4-1 overall and 2-1 in singles, while Oliveira posted a perfect 2-0 doubles record and took a victory in singles. Â Â
Â
