Kailes Leads the Bulls at North Alabama Showcase

Florence, Ala., September 16, 2022 – The University of South Florida men's and women's cross-country men and women's teams competed in the North Alabama Showcase held at John Hunt Park on Friday.
Overall both squads placed 21
st behind several regionally and nationally ranked competitors. The men checked in at 21
st place among a field of 38 and the women also finished in 21
st out of 41 teams. This was the Bulls' second race of the season. The Bulls left John Hunt Park with thirteen personal best marks.
For the men's 8K race, senior
Ben Kailes (Jacksonville, Fla.) was the top finished for USF with a personal best time of 24:47.14, fastest Bull since 2015 (Michael Babinec).
Nickolas Kamen (Naples, Fla.) and
Sebastian Edwards (Celebration, Fla.) followed behind for the Bulls with personal bests of. 25:25.20 and 25:41.0.
Sydney Granack (Bradenton, Fla.) paced the women's team with a personal best time of 18:08.20 in the 5K race, while freshman
Cora Kolodge (Fair Haven, Mich.) placed second for the Bulls with personal best of 18:35.73.
Kelly Lynch (Wilmington, Del.) rounded out the top three for the Bulls with a personal best mark of 18:52.2.
"We saw improvement today. This is a really young group, and they need to be able to compete in these environments," said head coach
Erik Jenkins. "This was a good meet to learn from and will play dividend later in the season."
Up next, USF travels to Bethlehem, Pa., to compete in the Paul Short Run on Friday, September 30.
About USF Cross Country
The USF Cross Country team has earned 2 All-America selections, Christina Benton in 2002 and Gray Mavhera in 1994. The Bulls have advanced to the NCAA Cross Country Championships seven times in program history, three times for the men and four times for the women. The USF men's team have won seven team conference championships and the women have won five team championships. Head coach Erik Jenkins took over the program in 2019and during his tenure the Bulls posted twelve program records and 106 top 10 all-time program marks. USF hosted the 2018 NCAA Track and Field East Preliminary and the 2021 AAC Outdoor Championship at the USF Track and Field Stadium, as well as the 2022 AAC Country Cross Country Championship at Holloway Park.
