South Florida Men’s Tennis Falls to Rice in Spring Opener

The Bulls continue their season-opening three-match road trip on Sunday against UC Santa Barbara.

BOCA RATON, Fla. (Jan. 14, 2023) – The University of South Florida men's tennis team fell to Rice, 4-0, on Saturday afternoon in their first match of the 2023 spring season.

The doubles set saw USF returnees Bruno Oliveira and No. 67 Alvin Tudorica taking charge and defeating the Rice duo of Wes Barnett and Trinity Grear, 7-5. Newcomers Erik Grevelius and Thomas Pavlekovich-Smith also contributed to a successful doubles outing with a
6-3 win over the Owls' pair Dylan Heap and Santiago Navarro.


In singles play, Rice immediately got to work with a win on court six against Samuel Frizelle. However, junior transfer, Erik Grevelius took charge and defeated Santiago Navarro, 6-2, 6-1. This win, accompanied by Bruno Oliveira's dominant 6-2, 6-2 performance against Dylan Heap would tie the Bulls and the Owls, 3-3.

Despite a brilliant 1-6, 6-3, 7-6 (7-2) effort from Tudorica on court one, the Bulls would not be able to add another point to the win column as Rice closed out the win

The Bulls will return to the court in Boca Raton on Sunday at 10 a.m. when they face the UCSB Gauchos.
