PHILADELPHIA, Pa. (January 24, 2023) – The University of South Florida Bulls begin a two-game road trip at Temple on Wednesday night before heading to SMU in Dallas on Sunday afternoon.
The Bulls are coming off a hard-fought, but ultimately decisive victory over UCF at home on Saturday, 85-72. Temple is coming off a 56-55 upset win at No. 1 Houston on Sunday.
Temple defeated USF in Tampa on January 4th, 68-64. The Bulls and Owls have split their last four meetings, with South Florida winning four of the last seven. USF is 2-1 in its last three trips to Philadelphia.
Russel Tchewa posted a double-double with a career-high 20 points and 12 rebounds in the last matchup against Temple earlier this month. It was the first of two consecutive double-doubles posted by the USF center.
Tyler Harris is coming off a career-high 33 points against UCF on Saturday for his second 30-point output in the last four games. Harris was named to the AAC Honor Roll for the second straight week and third time this season. The fifth-year senior has reached and is closing in on several milestones:
- Scored a then-career high 31 points at No. 1 Houston on Jan. 11
- It was the first 30-point game for a USF Bull since David Collins (31) vs. Stony Brook on March 20, 2019
- Topped that with a new career high of 33 points vs. UCF on Jan. 21
- Went 13-for-13 from the free throw line to set a new USF single-game record for most FT made without a miss
- Scored 20 of his 33 in the second half to become the first USF player with a 20-point half since Laquincy Rideau (4/3/19 at DePaul in the CBI)
- Harris is the first Bull with a pair of 30-point games in a season since Corey Allen Jr. (2014-15)
- Only the 11th player in program history with at least two 30-point games
- Harris needs 30 more three-pointers this season to set a new USF single-season record (Record: 88 – Derrick Sharp, 1991-92)
- Between his three years and Memphis and now USF, Harris has made 252 three-pointers in the AAC; he is 13 shy of Christian Vital's record of 265 (UConn, 2016-20)
Four Owls scored in double digits during the last meeting in Tampa led by Damian Dunn's 19 points. Khalif Battle posted 15, Hysier Miller scored 15 and Jahlil White added 10 points. Dunn scored a team-high 16 points last Sunday in Temple's upset at Houston. Zach Hicks went 4-for-8 from beyond the arc.

About USF Men's Basketball
The USF men's basketball team is led by head coach Brian Gregory, who enters his sixth season in 2022-23. Gregory was introduced as the 10th head coach in program history in March of 2017 after previously leading programs at Georgia Tech (2011-16) and Dayton (2003-11). Gregory spent nearly a decade as an assistant coach under Michigan State's Hall of Fame head coach Tom Izzo and helped the Spartans win the 2000 NCAA National Championship. Gregory owns over 300 career head coaching wins and six postseason appearances, including the 2010 NIT Championship with Dayton. In his second season at the helm of the Bulls, Gregory led the team to the best win turnaround in the NCAA, the most single-season wins in school history and the 2019 College Basketball Invitational championship.
USF has retired three numbers in its history: Chucky Atkins (12), Charlie Bradley (30) and Radenko Dobras (31). The Bulls have earned three NCAA tournament bids, appeared in the NIT eight times and won the 2019 College Basketball Invitational.
