USF Jumpers and Hurdlers Excel at the PNC Lenny Lyles Invitational

Nia Robinson claims new indoor personal record and top ten national rank at first day of invitational

Louisville, Ky., January 27, 2022 – The University of South Florida Track and Field wrapped up day one of the PNC Lenny Lyles Invitational held at the University of Louisville.
 
Junior Nia Robinson's return to the women's long jump resulted in a second-place finish and a new personal indoor record mark of 6.42m (21-0.75). Robinson's jump is now the second best mark in program history, only behind current record-holder Kerine Black (6.65m / 21-10). This mark currently puts her seventh in the nation. Shaniya Benjamin was right behind Robinson with a leap of 6.17m (20-3.00) for third place.

Meanwhile, David Ajama finished in fifth position in the men's long jump with a mark of 7.11m (23-4.0).

In the women's 60-meter hurdles, Shaneylix Davila was the third to cross the finish line with a time of 8.38 seconds. She ran 8.28 to win her heat in the preliminary round. Michael Bourne III and Victor Steiner claimed third and fourth position in the men's competition with times of 7.98 and 8.05, respectively.
 
"We had some good performances today in some really competitive fields," head coach Erik Jenkins said, "The jumpers and hurdlers led the way in a solid start to the weekend."

The Bulls will finish out the PNC Lenny Lyles Invitational tomorrow, starting with the women's shot put at 11 a.m.

 
About USF Track and Field
The USF track and field team has earned 53 All-America selections and at least one All- American in 10 of the last 12 years, including a record eight athletes claiming 11 honors in 2021. Tampa native Shaniya Benjamin set a program record earning three All-American honors during the 2021 outdoor season, while triple jumper Matthew O'Neal, a 2016 graduate, became USF's first six-time NCAA All-American. Bulls have posted two NCAA runner-up finishes since 2013 - O'Neal (triple jump, 2016) and Courtney Anderson (high jump, 2013). Head coach Erik Jenkins took over the program in 2020 and in the 2021 outdoor season the Bulls posted seven program records and 40 top 10 all-time program marks. USF hosted the 2018 NCAA Track and Field East Preliminary and the 2021 AAC Outdoor Championship at the USF Track and Field Stadium located on the east end of campus.
