TAMPA (October 12, 2023) – The University of South Florida sailing team competed in the Stu Nelson Women's Regatta hosted by Connecticut College and the SAISA Fall Women's Regatta, hosted by the College of Charleston last weekend. The Bulls saw great success at the Stu Nelson Regatta, placing Top 10 in a field that included some of the Top 10 teams in the country.
The Stu Nelson Women's Regatta was sailed on the notorious Thames River in New London, Connecticut. With gusty and shifty winds, the race contained strong currents for the 16 teams competing.
The A division was sailed by juniors Heidi Hicks and Dana Aljasir, the B division by juniors Kay Brunsvold and Kalea Woodard who finished second and the C division by freshman Kailey Warrior and junior Janie Powell who finished one point off of fifth place.
Combining scores from the A, B and C divisions, South Florida placed eighth overall out of the 16 teams entered, many of whom are ranked top 10 in the country.
At the SAISA Fall Women's Regatta, the conditions were shifty puffy winds and a noticeable current.
Freshman Marina Dreyfuss and sophomore Madisen Hamai sailed in the A division, while junior Jordan MacMoyle and freshman Aicha Smati sailed in the B division. With steady improvement throughout the weekend, the young team managed an eighth overall finish.
