USF Host UNI for Sunday Matchup Inside Yuengling Center

TAMPA, Fla. (November 18, 2023) – The University of South Florida men's basketball team is back inside the friendly confines of the Yuengling Center for a Sunday matchup with Northern Iowa. The Bulls and Panthers are scheduled for a 5 p.m. tip on ESPN+.
 
The Bulls and Panthers both enter Sunday's contest with a 1-1 record.
 
The first 500 students will receive a Rocky tie-dye t-shirt. There is a SoFlo Rodeo party inside the Coke lounge for USF students. Sunday's game will also be South Florida's annual Autism Awareness Day.
 
USF and UNI are game two of a doubleheader as the South Florida women take on North Florida at 2 p.m. Paid parking for the men's game will start at halftime of the women's game. Fans who attend the women's game will get a complimentary general admission ticket for the men's game. Tickets can be redeemed at guest services at Gate A.
 
Chef Boyar"Reid"
Jayden Reid claimed the first American Athletic Conference Freshman of the Week award for 2023-24 after a stellar debut against South Carolina State. He recorded a double-double in his first collegiate game with 11 points and 10 assists. He also tied for a game-high five rebounds. He was dishing out dimes for most of the contest, which included a pass that led the SportsCenter No. 1 play of the night on Thursday.
 
Bulls at a Glance
Chris Youngblood leads the team averaging 19.5 points per game. He is averaging 2.0 rebounds per contest to go along with two assists, a steal, and a block. Selton Miguel is averaging 17.0 points per contest and is second on the team with 5.5 boards per game. He is tied for a team-best five steals. He has added three assists. Jayden Reid leads the team with 12 assists. He is tied for 30th in the NCAA with 6.0 assists per game and leads the AAC. He has an assist-to-turnover ratio of 12.00, which is tied for second in the country and best in the conference. He is tied for first on the team with five steals to go along with 3.0 rebounds per game. Corey Walker Jr. leads the team with 6.0 rebounds a game and is averaging 5.5 points per game. Sam Hines Jr. is third on the team with 9.0 points a contest. As a team, South Florida is tied for third in the nation with 23.0 free throws made per contest, which leads the American. With 43.0 points per game, the USF bench is sixth in the NCAA in scoring and is tops in the conference.
 
Last Time Out
South Florida dropped a tough one against Central Michigan on Wednesday. The Bulls nearly erased a 16-point deficit in the second half, but the comeback bid fell short. Chris Youngblood produced a season-high 20 points and added two rebounds, a block, a steal, and an assist. Selton Miguel recorded double digits for the second-straight game as he finished with 16. He added five rebounds, three steals, and one assist. Corey Walker Jr. was a point and a rebound shy of a double-double with nine points and nine rebounds. He added an assist and a steal. Jayden Reid led the team with two assists.
 
History with Northern Iowa
South Florida and UNI will meet for the second time on Sunday. USF defeated UNI last season 72-69 on the road on December 12, 2022.
 
Scouting the Panthers
Nate Heise leads UNI with 16.5 points per game, a team-best 7.0 rebounds per contest, and a team-high seven assists. Bowen Born is second on the squad averaging 14.0 points a game and is third on the team in rebounding with 5.0 boards a game. London Wolf is third in the team averaging 12.5 points a game to go along with 2.5 rebounds per game. He is tied for a team-best two blocks. He is tied for 31st in the NCAA shooting 55.6 percent from 3-point range, which is fourth in the MVC. Tytan Anderson rounds out the double-digit scorers with 11.5 points a game. He is averaging 4.5 boards a contest and he is second on the team with five assists. As a team, UNI is tied for 23rd in the NCAA with 10.5 3-pointers per contest, which is third in the conference.

The South Florida men's basketball team is led by Amir Abdur-Rahim, who was named the 11th head coach in program history on March 29, 2023. Abdur-Rahim was named the 2023 Mid-Major Coach of the Year (Hugh Durham Award) after leading Kennesaw State to its first-ever Division I NCAA Tournament berth in 2022-23.
