Bulls Drop Tough One in First Road Test

HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. (November 30, 2023) – The University of South Florida men's basketball team returned to the court for a road contest with Hofstra on Thursday. The Bulls (2-3) fell to the Pride (5-2) 82-63. Jayden Reid and Selton Miguel tied for a team-high 10 points.
 
Hofstra opened the game on a 15-4 run as the game hit the first media timeout with 14:34 left until the half. The Pride outscored the Bulls 7-5 over the next three minutes and took a 22-9 lead with 11:35 left in the opening stanza. Hofstra extended its lead to 31-11 with 7:54 left until half.
 
The Bulls battled the remainder of the opening half and outscored the Pride 12-10 and cut the deficit to 44-23 at the break.
 
Hofstra opened the second half on a 9-0 run and extended its lead to 53-23 with just over 18 minutes left in regulation. The Bulls responded with five unanswered and cut the deficit to 53-28.
 
The Pride extended its lead to 32, 71-39, with 11:47 left in regulation. Kobe Knox and Chris Youngblood knocked down back-to-back 3-pointers to cut the deficit to 71-45 and forced Hofstra to call a timeout.
 
The Bulls held the Pride to one field goal for the final 7:00 of play. During that stretch, South Florida outscored Hofstra 13-4. South Florida fell to Hofstra 82-63.
 
The Bulls bench came into the contest averaging 34.25 points a game and tonight USF's bench outscored the Hofstra bench 33-10. The Bulls outscored the Pride in the paint 26-20. South Florida forced 10 turnovers and scored 15 points off those turnovers.
 
Notables
· Jayden Reid finished tied for a team-high 10 points.
· Selton Miguel tied for a team-best 10 points.
· Sam Hines Jr. brought down a game-high 12 rebounds, one shy of tying a career-high.
 
Next Up
South Florida remains on the road for a contest with UMass on Saturday, December 2. The Bulls and the Minutemen are scheduled for a 1 p.m. start.
