Tampa, Fla. (Feb. 19, 2023) – The University of South Florida women's tennis team lost a close one on Sunday against North Texas, 4-2.

In doubles, USF and UNT split courts two and three, respectively, with the Bulls' Sierra Berry and Cliona Walsh earning a convincing 6-2 win on court two but Laura Pellicer and Ireland Simme falling 4-6 on court three.

The doubles point came down to court one, where South Florida's Grace Schumacher and Margriet Timmermans were competing together. Action was tied at 4-4 before North Texas's Jasmine Adams and Matilde Morais pulled away for a 6-4 victory.

In singles action, UNT's Gloria Alogo Piqueras had to drop out early on court three after sustaining an injury. USF's Pellicer had a 3-1 lead before Alogo Piqueras pulled out, giving the Bulls the point by retirement in the set.

North Texas responded by taking courts four and one, putting them one point away from sealing the victory.

The match came down to courts two, five, and six with USF needing all three points to earn the win.
Walsh was able to give the Bulls one of those points on court six, defeating UNT's Nformi Stadfany 6-4, 7-5.

South Florida's Simme was able to force a third set on court five, however, she didn't get the chance to play it as action was stopped following a North Texas clincher on court two.

Berry's 6-7, 4-6 loss on court two marked her first singles loss of the season, ending her unbeaten season record.
