TAMPA (March 22, 2023) – The No. 60-ranked University of South Florida men's tennis team came from behind to defeat No. 58 Florida Atlantic, 4-3, on Wednesday at the USF Varsity Tennis Courts. The Bulls improve to 10-9 on the year while the Owls drop to 11-9.

South Florida, who got revenge on FAU after a 4-0 loss on Jan. 16 in Boca Raton, won its fourth-straight match and its sixth in the last seven matches.

The Owls jumped out on top of the Bulls quickly winning the doubles point to take a 1-0 lead. Erik Grevelius and Alvin Tudorica got the only win in doubles for South Florida taking court two, 6-2, to pick up their team-best fifth win of the season as a tandem. Florida Atlantic, however, came back with wins on court one (6-4) and court three (6-4) to take the early advantage.

In singles, the Bulls didn't waste any time tying up the match when Erik Grevelius coasted to a 6-1, 6-2 victory on court three, only to have the Owls take court two, 6-4, 6-2, to regain the lead, 2-1.

Florida Atlantic pulled to one match from a victory when it took court five, 6-3, 6-3, but that was the last win of the day for the Owls who were not able to hold on to the lead.

South Florida's Thomas Pavlekovich-Smith had a fight on his hands but came out on top, 7-5, 6-4, grinding out a win on court six, leaving the balance of the match to Bruno Oliveira on court four.

Oliveira took the first set for the Bulls, 6-4, but was stretched to the limit in the second set before pulling out the victory in a tiebreaker, 7-6 (7-4), to secure the win for the Green and Gold.
