USF Sailing Places Fifth Overall Out Of 15 Teams At Emily Wick Women’s Fleet Race Regatta

April 10, 2023

Tampa, FLA. (April 10, 2023) - The University of South Florida Women's Sailing team finished fifth among 15 teams at the Emily Wick Women's Fleet Race Regatta this past weekend in New London, Connecticut.

The weather on both days of the competition was cold with temperatures never reaching 50 degrees. There was light wind in the mornings and heavier gusts in the afternoon which allowed for 14 races to be completed in both Group A and Group B.

The Bulls finished the competition in fifth place and beat several top-20-ranked opponents including No.10 MIT and No.14 Tufts. The A division was sailed by freshman Emma Shakespeare, sophomore Kay Brunsvold, and junior Jewel Kelly, that finished in seventh place with 102 points combined.

The B division was sailed by seniors Sydney Monahan and Olivia Smith, who teamed up for a fourth-place finish in their division. They claimed 72 points for the Bulls which would be good enough for a fifth overall finish among the 15 teams.
