Tampa, Fla. (April 12, 2023) – The No. 59 South Florida Bulls will honor seniors Laura Pellicer and Margriet Timmermans when they host Memphis in the final home match of the season.
The Bulls have won nine of their last 11 matches but are looking to end a three-match losing streak against Memphis. South Florida enters the contest at 13-7 on the season, Memphis comes in at 7-11.

The two seniors will be honored prior to the match.

"Laura and Margriet have both given their heart and soul to the program and we will be forever grateful for that," said Coach Cristina Moros. "They have both represented the program with class both on and off the court.  I was honored when they both chose USF for their college experience."

Playing in her final home match as a Bull, Laura Pellicer has posted a 49-27 record in singles during her collegiate career and logged 31 wins in doubles (31-44). She had her best season during her freshman season when she was named the American Athletic Conference Freshman of the Year and earned All-Conference honors after posting a 14-8 singles record and an 8-8 mark in doubles. This season, Pellicer has 11 singles wins, the second-highest total of her career. In the first round of the 2022 AAC Conference Championships, she won the deciding point as the Bulls overcame a 3-1 deficit to defeat Temple in the first round. She trailed 4-2 in the third set before taking the last four games in a 4-6, 6-4, 6-4 victory.

"Laura has been an integral part of the line up since she arrived on campus," said Moros.  "She has racked up an astounding list of accomplishments, from conference freshman of the year to all conference selection.  She is currently excelling in the Vinik school of sports entertainment and management and has somehow managed to continue to operate at an extremely high level in both tennis and academics.  She is someone our team looks up to with all that she does and has been an example to her younger teammates. She will be missed."

Fellow senior Margriet Timmermans, also playing in her last home match at USF, has won 16 matches in singles (16-25) and 23 matches in doubles (23-27) during her South Florida career. Her best singles season came during the 2021 campaign when she posted 10 wins and she had 10 (10-9) wins in doubles during the 2022 campaign. Timmermans also had a big hand in the Bulls win over Temple in the 2022 AAC Conference Championships as she captured the tying point. After falling 2-6 in the first set, Margriet claimed the second set 7-5 before outlasting her opponent, 6-4 to seal the win.
"Margriet has been able to push her teammates on the court and in the classroom," said Moros. "Margriet has been able to win some key matches for us over the years in both singles and doubles, including a key win against Temple in the first round of the conference tournament last year.   She sets the example in academics by currently holding one of the highest GPA's on the team.  I am proud Margriet chose to wear the green and gold and wish her nothing but the best in the future. "

Following the match against Memphis, the Bulls will next take to the court in the AAC Conference Championships which begin Wednesday, April 19 at the USTA National Campus in Orlando.
