Women’s 4x400m Relay Win Mt. SAC Relays

Benjamin, Anderson, Burton, and Plummer won the collegiate section in 3:36.12

Tampa, Fla., April 14, 2023 – The University of South Florida track and field team wrapped up the first day at the Mt. Sac Relays and the Tom Jones Memorial with multiple Bulls posting season and personal bests.

Mt. Sac Relays

The 4x100m relay team of Zahria Allers-Liburd, Shaniya Benjamin, Je'Nyia Burton, and Doneisha Anderson kicked off competition at the Mt. Sac Relays and finished fourth in the competition with a time of 45.34 seconds.

In the 110-meter hurdles, Michael Bourne III started his day in 14.36 seconds. Later in the 400-meter hurdles, Bourne ran a personal best time of 52.90 seconds to finish eighth in the competition.

Benjamin, Anderson, Burton, and Chakiya Plummer won the 4x400m relay with a time of 3:36.12, good for the third-best time in program history.

Tom Jones Memorial

In the women's long jump, Kendall McDaniel posted a season best mark of 5.74m (18-10) in the women's college long jump finals.

Arden La-Rose posted a new personal best in the women's 1500m with 4:36.73. Kelly Lynch had a season best time of 18:19.88 in the women's 5K, while Sebastian Edwards established a new personal best time of 15:21.68 to finish third in the men's competition.

The Bulls are back in action today in California at the Beach Invitational and Mt. Sac Relays as well as the  Tom Jones Memorial in Gainesville.

About USF Track and Field

The USF track and field team has earned 56 All-American selections and at least one All-American in 10 of the last 12 years, including a record eight athletes claiming 11 honors in 2021. Romaine Beckford won the 2023 NCAA Indoor Championship in the men's high jump. Tampa native Shaniya Benjamin set a program record earning three All-American honors during the 2021 outdoor season, while triple jumper Matthew O'Neal, a 2016 graduate, became USF's first six-time NCAA All-American. Bulls have posted two NCAA runner-up finishes since 2013 - O'Neal (triple jump, 2016) and Courtney Anderson (high jump, 2013). Head coach Erik Jenkins took over the program in 2020 and in the 2021 outdoor season the Bulls posted seven program records and 40 top 10 all-time program marks. USF hosted the 2018 NCAA Track and Field East Preliminary and the 2021 AAC Outdoor Championship at the USF Track and Field Stadium located on the east end of campus.
