Bulls Fall to Knights in Rivalry Match

ORLANDO, Fla. (September 7, 2023) – The University of South Florida women's soccer team was back in action Sunday for a road matchup against in-state rival UCF. Kouri Peace led the Bulls with two shots on goal, but USF fell to UCF 2-0.
 
With the loss, the Bulls fell to 3-4 on the season, while the Knights improved to 4-2 on the year.
 
The Bulls' defense was stout in the first half and held the Knights without a shot on goal. The USF attack recorded three shots on goal, including a quality chance from inside the box by Signe Markvardsen.
 
The Knights were able to find the back of the net twice in two minutes midway through the second half. Chloe Netzel and Ellie Moreno scored the goals as UCF went on to win the match 2-0.
 
Notable
· The Bulls held the Knights without a shot on goal in the first half, which was the fourth time this season USF has held an opponent to no shots on goal in a half.
· The Bulls outshot the Knights 11-8.
· USF is now 6-13-4 against UCF, 1-8-1
 
Next Up
South Florida takes to the road for the American Athletic Conference opener against Temple. The Bulls and Owls are slated for a 7 p.m. first touch on ESPN+.

The 2023 season marks the 17th and final for head coach Denise Schilte-Brown at the helm of the Bulls. Schilte-Brown guided South Florida to the program's first-ever NCAA Tournament in 2010 and the Bulls have made eight total postseason appearances (2014, 2015, 2017, 2018, 2019, 2020, and 2021) in the last 13 years. USF posted five consecutive seasons with a conference championship, winning the regular-season title in 2018, 2020, and 2021, while earning the tournament crown in 2017, 2019, and 2020. USF alum and Olympic Gold Medalist, Evelyne Viens, was selected fifth overall in the NWSL Draft by the Sky Blue FC, now Gotham FC. Viens was one of four Pro Bulls to participate in the 2023 FIFA Women's World Cup.
