
USF Sailing Opens Fall Slate

The Bulls competed in their first of six fall events.
TAMPA (September 19, 2023) – The University of South Florida sailing team opened the fall portion of its 2023-24 season at the SAISA Women's Singlehanded Championships in Melbourne, Florida on Saturday.
Three members of the USF sailing team competed at the season-opening event hosted by Florida Institute of Technology. Conditions varied throughout the day with winds ranging from 5-12 knots.
Against 10 competitors, first-year sailor Kailey Warrior finished a very strong fourth place, just one point out of a podium finish by winning two of her 10 races. Junior Heidi Hicks finished seventh and first-year sailor Marina Dreyfuss was just behind in eighth place.
About USF Sailing
The USF sailing program has reached the national finals in 10 of the last 11 years. The Bulls finished in the top 10 during the 2012 and 2013 seasons. The sailing team is based out of St. Petersburg and has been led since 2014 by head coach Allison Jolly, a former USA Olympian, 2016 Florida Sports Hall of Fame inductee and 2019 U.S. National Sailing Hall of Fame inductee.
