TAMPA (October 29, 2024) – The University of South Florida Bulls were back in action at both the American Athletic Conference Fall Championships in Houston, Texas and the Bedford Cup in Gainesville last weekend. Among the many highlights of the Bedford Cup was a runner-up singles finish for Elijah Cham.
In the main draw of the Orange Singles Bracket, Cham opened with a 6-7 (4-7), 6-4, 6-3 comeback win in the round of 16. The junior rallied again in the semifinals for a 3-6, 7-6 (10-8), 6-4 victory. Cham then advanced to the finals with a 6-4, 6-2 victory before falling in the championship match.
In the main draw of the Blue Singles Bracket, Ben Hudson was a semifinalist before falling to the eventual championship.
In doubles competition, Agustin Cuellar and Stepan Mruzek finished as the runners-up. The duo opened with a 7-5 victory and posted an 8-5 win in the quarterfinals. They continued on with an 8-6 win in the semifinals before falling in the doubles championship in a tiebreaker, 7-8 (5-7).
Additionally, Ettore Danesi reached the semifinals of the Blue Consolation Bracket before play was suspended to conclude the weekend.
Newcomers Hugo Car and Toto Llanes both traveled to the AAC Fall Championships to compete in singles and doubles play. Car had the top showing, earning a 6-2, 6-1 victory to open play, and advancing to the quarterfinals of the singles bracket before suffering defeat.
