USF Welcomes SMU for Arthur Jones Day on Sunday

TAMPA, Fla. (February 24, 2024) – The University of South Florida men's basketball team welcomes SMU for an American Athletic Conference battle on Sunday as the Bulls honor USF legend Arthur Jones as part of our Equality & Inclusion game. USF (20-5, 13-1 AAC) and SMU (19-8, 10-4 AAC) are slated for a noon jump on ESPN2. Sunday's game is presented by USF Health.
 
The first 1,000 fans will receive an Arthur Jones t-shirt. Fans will also receive Bubble Down co-branded USF car air fresheners while supplies last. Concessions will be running a $1 popcorn special during the game.
 
The Bulls extended their winning streak to 12 conference games, extending the longest streak in program history. The 13 wins in conference play are the most in program history, surpassing the 12 wins in the Big East in 2011-12. The 12-game winning streak ties the longest winning streak in program history. The Bulls had a 12-game streak set during the 1980-81 season. For the sixth time in program history, USF has won 20 games in a season.
 
'Sel'ing Point
Earlier this week, Selton Miguel was named the AAC Player of the Week. For the week, he led the Bulls with 17.5 points and helped South Florida to a 2-0 record. For the week, he shot 1.000 percent, 2-for-2, from the free-throw line, 63.6 percent, 5-for-8, from 3-point range, and 56.5 percent, 13-for-23, from the field. In the win against No. 24 FAU, he led all scorers with a career-high 25 points. It was his 20th game in double figures and his fourth with over 20 points. He added four rebounds, one assist, and one steal. In the win against Tulsa, he posted a double-digit performance with 10 points. He added three rebounds and three assists. For the season, he is tied for 200th in the country with 2.16 3-pointers per game, which is eighth in the conference. He is second on the team with 14.8 points per contest. He is fourth on the squad with 3.4 boards per game. He is third on the squad with 26 steals and is second on the team with 57 assists. He has added seven blocks.
 
CY in the YC
Chris Youngblood paces the team with 15.0 points per game. He is averaging 2.5 rebounds per game to go along with 50 assists, 16 blocks, and 13 steals. He is shooting 82.5 percent from the free-throw line, which is tied for 149th in the country and is sixth in the AAC. His 2.24 3-pointers per game are 172nd in the country and fifth in the conference.
 
Pryor on Fire
Kasean Pryor leads the team with 7.3 rebounds per contest. His 5.83 defensive rebounds per game are 76th in the NCAA and fifth in the AAC. He is third on the squad averaging 11.7 points per game. He has a team-best 20 blocks. He is second on the team lead with 27 steals. He has added 37 assists. He is shooting 82.4 percent from the free-throw line, which is tied for 154th in the country and seventh in the conference.
 
Bulls at a Glance
Jayden Reid leads the team with 85 assists. He is tied for 244th in the NCAA with 3.4 assists per game and is tied for 11th in the AAC. He has an assist-to-turnover ratio of 2.30, which is tied for 90th in the country, fifth in the conference, and fifth among NCAA freshmen. He has a team-best 32 steals. He averages 2.5 rebounds per game to go along with 6.8 points per contest. Kobe Knox is second on the team lead with 19 blocks. He averages 8.6 points per game and 3.1 rebounds per game. Brandon Stroud is second on the team with 6.0 rebounds per contest. He averages 5.5 points a game with 32 assists, 25 steals, and seven blocks.

South Florida's bench is 33rd in the NCAA and third in the conference averaging 27.32 points per contest. The USF bench has outscored its opponent's bench 683-450. Opposing benches are averaging just 18.0 points per game.

USF and SMU will meet for the 22nd time on Sunday. The Mustangs lead the series 14-7. South Florida is 5-5 at home against SMU. The Bulls won the last meeting 71-67 on February 25, 2023.

The South Florida men's basketball team is led by Amir Abdur-Rahim, who was named the 11th head coach in program history on March 29, 2023.
