No. 63 USF has its win streak snapped by ETSU

The Bulls’ four-match winning streak came to an end on Tuesday, 4-3.

TAMPA (March 12, 2024) – No. 63 South Florida (8-7) had its four-match winning streak halted on Tuesday afternoon in a 4-3 setback to ETSU (8-5). The Bulls moved up from No. 72 to No. 63 in the ITA Rankings prior to the match on Tuesday.

"That was a close, tough match today against a very disciplined team," said head coach Cristina Moros. "ETSU was just really tough down the stretch. Our team is competing, but at this point in the season, everyone is. We're looking forward to another great battle tomorrow."

The Bulls battled late into doubles play which was ultimately decided by a 6-4 score for ETSU on the last court standing and USF had to try to play catchup in singles action.

The Bulls did just that, rallying to tie the score at 3-3 when the final court again decided the outcome. Gargi Pawar didn't go down without a fight on Court 5, storming back from a 3-6 loss in the opening set with a 6-3 win of her own to force the decisive final set that eventually went to ETSU.

Nadja Bay Christians was a straight set winner, 6-3, 7-5, on Court 2 as was Marta Falceto Font, 6-3, 6-4 on Court 4. Grace Schumacher battled back from an early deficit in her first set to prevail with a 7-6 (7-3), 6-4 victory.

Schumacher improved to 8-6 on Court 1 this season and Bay Christians raised her record to 6-1 on Court 2.

Schumacher was also named the AAC Women's Tennis Player of the Week by the league office as the match was ongoing Tuesday.
