TAMPA (March 13, 2024) – The USF women's sailing team will co-host the Sunshine City Team Race with Eckerd College this weekend, March 16-17.
The Sunshine City Team Race is a new open coed event. There will be nine teams participating at split venues on Saturday with four teams at Eckerd and five at USF.
At the completion of racing on Saturday, the top two from each venue will race against each other on Sunday at Eckerd in the Gold finals. The remaining competitors will race in the Silver division at USF.
USF will field a coed and women's team. The starters for this event are Juniors Kalea Woodard, Ochi Fernando, and Janie Powell, sophomores Madisen Hamai and Cate Brennan, and freshmen Kailey Warrior and Marina Dreyfuss.
About USF Sailing
The USF sailing program has reached the national finals in 10 of the last 11 years. The Bulls finished in the top 10 during the 2012 and 2013 seasons. The sailing team is based out of St. Petersburg and has been led since 2014 by head coach Allison Jolly, a former USA Olympian, 2016 Florida Sports Hall of Fame inductee and 2019 U.S. National Sailing Hall of Fame inductee.
