TAMPA (March 29, 2024) – The University of South Florida (9-11) dropped a 4-2 decision to Liberty University on Friday afternoon as the Bulls celebrated Senior Day. Erik Grevelius, Bruno Oliveira, Tom Pisane, Davide Tortora and Alvin Tudorica were each honored prior to the match.
Doubles action saw South Florida secure an early advantage after a 6-3 come-from-behind match win for Ben Hudson/Bruno Oliveira on Court 2. Liberty responded by grabbing Court 3 in a 6-2 victory, resulting in a point-deciding match on Court 1.
The Flames forced the No. 55-ranked pairing of Alvin Tudorica/Erik Grevelius to a 6-6 tiebreaking point. However, the Bulls prevailed and were able to give USF a 1-0 lead.
In singles matches, the Bulls were pressured early, falling in the first set on four of their six courts. However, the Bulls did tally the first singles point. Elijah Cham performed strongly in both sets and secured the opening win on Court 4 (6-3, 6-4).
USF kept it tight in the second set across the six courts. Tudorica, Cuellar, and Oliveira were all within a game of capturing a set point for the Bulls. But the Flames had the advantage and took the final four singles matches to clinch the victory.
