Tampa, Fla. May 22, 2024 – The South Florida Track and Field women's team opened their competition of the NCAA East First Round in Lexington, Ky.
The women started off their NCAA First Round action this Thursday advancing one athlete to the quarterfinals in the 200m dash.

Zahria Allers-Liburd,
Terren Peterson, and
Shaniya Benjamin competed in the first-round 200m dash competition. Allers-Liburd finished second in her heat and 11-fastest overall (23.05), earning an automatic qualification to Saturday's quarterfinals. The time was a non-wind-aided personal best for her.
Peterson went on to finish 37
th in the 200m dash (23.61), and Benjamin would finish 41
st (23.66).
Benjamin also competed in the long jump and finished 25
th with her best jump coming at 6.03m (19' - 9.5").
Chakiya Plummer competed in the first-round 400m hurdles competition and finished 32
nd after putting up a personal best of 58.91.
Amenda Saint Louis and
Je'Nyia Burton competed in the first-round 400m dash. Saint Louis finished 35
th (54.26) and Burton finished 46
th (58.95).
Jasmyn James competed in the shot put and finished 39
th with her best throw coming at 14.77m (48' – 5.5').
Antonia Sealy competed in the javelin throw and finished 45
th with a best throw of 40.24m (132' – 0").

The USF track and field men's team won the 2024 Indoor and Outdoor AAC Championship. Romaine Beckford won the 2023 NCAA Indoor and Outdoor Championships in the men's high jump as a Bull. The team has earned 56 All-America selections and at least one All-American in 10 of the last 12 years, including a record eight athletes claiming 11 honors in 2021. Tampa native Shaniya Benjamin set a program record earning three All-American honors during the 2021 outdoor season, while triple jumper Matthew O'Neal, a 2016 graduate, became USF's first six-time NCAA All-American. Bulls have posted two NCAA runner-up finishes since 2013 - O'Neal (triple jump, 2016) and Courtney Anderson (high jump, 2013). Head coach Erik Jenkins took over the program in 2020 and in the 2021 outdoor season the Bulls posted seven program records and 40 top 10 all-time program marks. USF hosted the 2018 NCAA Track and Field East Preliminary and the 2021 AAC Outdoor Championship at the USF Track and Field Stadium located on the east end of campus.
