Tampa, Fla. June 18, 2024 – The University of South Florida has eight Track and Field athletes selected by their home countries to compete for their national championships. These athletes have a chance to compete against their country's best and potentially earn Olympic qualifications.
The championships span from June 14
th to as late as June 30
th, depending on the country.
Michael Bourne III was the first Bull to compete in his country's colors on June 14th for Puerto Rico in the Campeonato Nacional FAPUR Junevil/Adulto at Mayaguez Stadium. Bourne III finished second in the 110m hurdles (14.05).
Zahria Allers-Liburd was next to compete for-country on June 16 and finished first in both the 100m dash (11.62) and 200m dash (24.30) for Saint Kitts and Nevis at their National Championships in Nevis National Stadium.
Goodness Iredia was the next up to compete on June 17 for Nigeria in their National Trials at Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium. He finished second overall in the long jump and set a personal best with an 8.03m (26' – 3.5") jump. The mark would have been a program record if cleared while competing for South Florida. Iredia also competed in the triple jump on June 18, finishing first with a personal best of 16.55m (54' – 3.5"). Iredia's finish makes him the first Bull to win a for country National Championship this summer.
Jaleel Croal ran in the British Virgin Islands National Youth and Senior Championship on June 21 and 22. He finished second in the 100m dash and first in the 200m dash at AO Shirley Grounds. This was his fourth time becoming a national champion in the 200m dash for his country.
The remaining four Bulls competing for country, will compete June 27-29.
Chakiya Plummer will run both the 100m and 400m hurdles in the NGC/NAAATT National Junior/Senior Championship at Hazley Crawford Stadium for Trinidad and Tobago National Championships.
Gabriel Moronta will run the 400m dash in the Campeonato Nacional Superior at Estadio Olímpico Luguelín Santos for the Dominican Republic National Championship.
Shevioe Reid will run the 200m dash and 400m dash in the JAAA National Jr & Sr Championships at the National Stadium for the Jamaica National Championship.
Devontie Archer will also be there, competing in the 400m hurdles.

The USF track and field men's team won the 2024 Indoor and Outdoor AAC Championship. Romaine Beckford won the 2023 NCAA Indoor and Outdoor Championships in the men's high jump as a Bull. The team has earned 56 All-America selections and at least one All-American in 10 of the last 12 years, including a record eight athletes claiming 11 honors in 2021. Tampa native Shaniya Benjamin set a program record earning three All-American honors during the 2021 outdoor season, while triple jumper Matthew O'Neal, a 2016 graduate, became USF's first six-time NCAA All-American. Bulls have posted two NCAA runner-up finishes since 2013 - O'Neal (triple jump, 2016) and Courtney Anderson (high jump, 2013). Head coach Erik Jenkins took over the program in 2020 and in the 2021 outdoor season the Bulls posted seven program records and 40 top 10 all-time program marks. USF hosted the 2018 NCAA Track and Field East Preliminary and the 2021 AAC Outdoor Championship at the USF Track and Field Stadium located on the east end of campus.
