USF Track and Field’s Abdul-Rasheed Saminu Advances to 100m and 200m NCAA Championship Final

Semifinal Recap: Goodness Iredia earns First-Team All-American, Both Men’s and Women’s 4x400m relay teams, and Shevioe Reid in the 200m, all earn Second Team All-American.

Tampa, Fla. June 6, 2024 – With the semifinals now complete, the South Florida Track and Field men's program will have two chances at an NCAA Championship Friday.
 
Abdul-Rasheed Saminu advanced to Friday's NCAA Championship Final in both the 100m dash and 200m dash.
 
Goodness Iredia finished seventh in the long jump to earn First-Team All-American status.
 
The Bulls also earned three Second Team All-American nominations, Both the men's and women's 4x400 relay and Shevioe Reid in the 200m dash.
 
THURSDAY
The women's competition began today as Shaniya Benjamin, Zahria Allers-Liburd, Terren Peterson, and Amenda Saint Louis competed in the 4x400m relay Semifinal and finished 13th (3:31.21), earning Second Team All-American status.
 
With that performance, the women's season is now complete.
 
"Our women's team made a lot of positive strides towards advancing the program forward this year," Director of Cross Country and Track & Field said. "These four individuals who comprised the 4x400 relay had a lot to do with our overall success. I was proud of the effort they showed today on the national stage."
 
WEDNESDAY
Saminu finished with the fastest 100m dash qualifying time of heat three (10.14) to earn him an automatic qualification in Friday's NCAA Championship Final. His time was the fifth-fastest time overall and will have him seeded as such for the 9:52 p.m. ET Championship.
 
South Florida was the only school this year to have three competitors in the 200m dash Semifinal. Saminu advanced to the final with an automatic qualification after running a personal best and the second-fastest time of heat three (20.30). His time was the eighth-fastest overall in the semifinals. Shevioe Reid finished 11th in the semifinal (20.36), earning him Second-Team All-American status. Jaleel Croal finished 24th in the semifinal (20.99), earning him Honorable-Mention All-American status.
 
Goodness Iredia finished seventh in the long jump final, with his best jump coming at 7.86m (25' – 9.5"). Iredia earned First-Team All-American status with this finish.
 
To close out the first day of NCAA Championship action, Tre'Sean Bouie, Reid, Nathan Metelus, and Gabriel Moronta ran the 12th-fastest time (3:05.59) and finished 12th in the 4x400m relay. This finish earns the Second-Team All-American status.
 
Devontie Archer ran a 51.22 in the 400m hurdles semifinal. Archer's time was the 22nd-best of the field, earning him Honorable-Mention All-American Status.
 
The men's competition opened up with Zayquan Lincoln, Jaleel Croal, Shevioe Reid, and Abdul-Rasheed Saminu running the seventh-fastest 4x100m relay time (38.68). The time would have qualified them for Friday's final however they were disqualified due to a lane violation, still earning Honorable-Mention All-American Status.
 
UP NEXT
Friday will be the final day of the outdoor season for South Florida. Abdul-Rasheed Saminu will compete in both the 100m and 200m dash NCAA Championship Finals. The 100m dash will take place first at 9:52 p.m. ET, and the 200m dash at 10:37 p.m. Both events will be streamed on ESPN+.

The USF track and field men's team won the 2024 Indoor and Outdoor AAC Championship. Romaine Beckford won the 2023 NCAA Indoor and Outdoor Championships in the men's high jump as a Bull. The team has earned 56 All-America selections and at least one All-American in 10 of the last 12 years, including a record eight athletes claiming 11 honors in 2021. Tampa native Shaniya Benjamin set a program record earning three All-American honors during the 2021 outdoor season, while triple jumper Matthew O'Neal, a 2016 graduate, became USF's first six-time NCAA All-American. Bulls have posted two NCAA runner-up finishes since 2013 - O'Neal (triple jump, 2016) and Courtney Anderson (high jump, 2013). Head coach Erik Jenkins took over the program in 2020 and in the 2021 outdoor season the Bulls posted seven program records and 40 top 10 all-time program marks. USF hosted the 2018 NCAA Track and Field East Preliminary and the 2021 AAC Outdoor Championship at the USF Track and Field Stadium located on the east end of campus.
