HUGO CAR NAMED CO-CHAMPION OF ITA REGIONALS

Car advances to the ITA Championships and earns a NCAA bid.

TAMPA (October 14, 2025)- The University of South Florida's Mens Tennis team traveled to Gainesville, Florida last week to compete in the ITA Southeast Regionals. South Florida debuted the entirety of their team for the first time in the fall season and recorded some impressive results

On Wednesday, during the Qualifiers (R64), Max Mroz took a singles win with a score of 3-6, 6-0, 6-4. In the next round of Qualifiers (R32), James Newton won 3-6, 6-3, 6-2. Ettore Danesi earned a  6-0, 4-6, 7-5 victory and Timeo Gaillard advanced with a quick 6-1, 6-1 win

In the first round of the Main Draw (R64) for singles, Agustin Cuellar won 4-6, 6-0, 6-0. Stepan Mruzek advanced with a score of 6-4, 7-5. Toto Llanes earned a 6-1, 6-4 victory while No. 32 Hugo Car advanced with a winning score of 6-3, 6-2

In the first round of doubles Main Draw (R64), Mruzek and Cuellar won 8-5 while Elijah Cham and Gughi Verdese earned an 8-4 win. Mroz and Danesi recorded a 8-5 triumph while Car and Newton took a swift 8-0 win. In the second round of doubles Main Draw (R32), only Car and Newton advanced with a 8-6 win

In the second round of singles Main Draw (R32) , No. 32 Car battled for a 5-7, 7-6 (5), 6-3 win. No. 32 Car followed it up in the third round of Main Draw singles (R16) with a 3-6, 6-2, 6-2 win

In the third round of doubles Main Draw (R16), Car and Newton advanced with a 8-6 win

In the singles Qualifiers, No. 32 Car took a big win of 6-4, 4-6, 6-4 to secure his spot in the semifinals. Car and Newton also advanced through the doubles Qualifiers with a winig score of 8-4

In the semifinals, No. 32 Car advanced in singles with a 4-6, 6-3, 6-4 win. Car accepted the Co-Champion title of the ITA Southeast Regionals and earned a bid to compete in the NCAA Tournament.
