CAR SET FOR FIRST ROUND OF NCAA SINGLES CHAMPIONSHIP

Hugo Car is set to face reigning NCAA Singles Champion Michael Zheng at 9 a.m.

ORLANDO (November 17, 2025) - University of South Florida's Hugo Car has earned a spot in the NCAA Division 1 Singles Championship, hosted by UCF at the USTA Courts in Orlando, Florida. The tournament is set for November 18-23. 

This is the first Bull to compete in the NCAA Division 1 Singles Outdoor Championship in over 20 years. Car has already earned a singles champion title at the JUCO level, and earned a No. 32 ITA ranking pre season. Car also was named American Player of the Year, as well earning both Singles and Doubles All-Conference Teams. 

Car is set to face the 2024 NCAA Division 1 Singles Champion, Michael Zheng, who was Colombia's first singles champion. Car will be playing on Tuesday at 9 a.m.

Head coach Ashley Fisher is in his 10th year at the helm of the program for the 2025-26 season. Fischer has guided the Bulls to five NCAA Tournaments, including three trips to the second round. He was named the American Athletic Conference Coach of the Year in 2017 & 2019 after leading USF to the conference title in each of those seasons.
