Tampa, Fla. – Feb. 11, 2025 – South Florida women's basketball (16-8, 9-2 AAC) welcomes Rice (12-11, 5-6 AAC) to the Yuengling Center for its second meeting of the year on Wednesday, Feb. 12. Tipoff is slated for 7 p.m. and the action will stream on ESPN+.
 
SETTING THE STAGE
The Bulls are on the hunt for their sixth straight win and second straight sweep of a league opponent. The Owls are victors of two of their last four contests.
 
THE SOUTH FLORIDA-RICE SERIES
Wednesday is the 5th meeting between the two squads. The all-time series is knotted at 2-2. The last clash was a 64-57 Bulls win in Houston, Texas. (Dec. 29, 2024).
 
BEST OF THE BULLS
The Bulls are led by graduate guard Sammie Puisis (14.5 ppg.) and sophomore guard Vittoria Blasigh (10.3 ppg.) (Puisis is ranked 7th in the nation with 71 total 3-pointers made and 8th in 3FG Made Per Game (2.9 3FGM). Junior forward Carla Brito holds a team best 7.6 rebound average. (7th in the American). Senior forward L'or Mputu has a 7.4 rebound average (8th in the American). The Duo is tied for 1st (North Texas) the AAC with a combined 15.0 Rebound Average. Graduate guard Mama Dembele is USF's top assister with 5.2 apg. (125 total assists ranked 26th nationally). In the latest NCAA Nitty Gritties Report, South Florida is ranked 70th in NET SOS, 66th in the Net and seventh in Net Nonconference Schedule.
 
ADDITIONAL NOTES
South Florida held Temple to just seven points in the second quarter last game. That is the fewest allowed by USF in any quarter of a conference game since February 13, 2024 against Wichita State (6 points in 1st quarter). L'or Mputu has recorded 70 rebounds, 15 defensive stops (steals + blocks) and a 67.3 field-goal percentage over her last eight games. The only other USF player this century to reach each of those marks in an eight-game span within a season was Dulcy Fankam Mendjiadeu (November 2022). USF has started 9-2 or better in conference play for the third time in the last five seasons (11-0 in 2022-23, 11-0 in 2020-21). All other AAC teams have combined for three such starts over that time frame. Sammie Puisis has made at least one three in 56 straight regular-season games, the longest active streak in Division I. That is the longest streak by any USF player this century and the longest by any player in AAC history. The Bulls have six different players this season with at least 100 points, 60 rebounds, and 20 steals. That is tied for the most in Division I in 2024-25 and the most for USF in a single campaign since 2012-13 (also six).
