Bulls End Regular Season with Two Ranked Home Matches

April 03, 2025

TAMPA, FLA. (April 3, 2025) -The South Florida women's tennis team (6-12) is set to close out the regular season this weekend with a pair of ranked matchups against No. 43 Rice (12-5) on Friday, April 4, and No. 46 FIU (11-2) on Sunday, April 6.

The Bulls secured a 4-3 victory in their last outing against DePaul, their final regular-season road match of the year. Melisa Senli, Kelly Vargas, and Josefine Falster earned singles victories for USF after the team initially trailed 2-0. South Florida clinched the win over the Blue Demons on the final court with Charlotte Ruud's hard-fought triumph on Court Two (3-6, 7-6 [7-5], 7-6 [7-2]). Ruud enters this weekend's matches on an eight-game winning streak and looks to continue her strong finish to the regular season.

The Rice Owls come into Friday's match having won seven of their last eight contests. The Bulls trail the Owls in the all-time series, 9-4. In their last meeting, Rice defeated USF 4-0 on April 19, 2024. The Owls feature four players with 10+ wins this season. The Bulls will be seeking their first victory over Rice in Tampa since April 2, 2010, when they won 4-3.

The FIU Panthers enter Sunday's matchup on a nine-match winning streak and have not lost since February 2 against No. 20 UCF. The Bulls hold a narrow 14-13 edge in the all-time series against FIU. In their last meeting, the Panthers earned a 4-0 win on April 4, 2024. FIU's Ekaterina Khairutdinova has won her last nine singles matches, mirroring her team's overall streak.

Sunday's match will also serve as Senior Day for the Bulls, with Gargi Pawar honored as the lone senior on USF's roster.
