USF Softball’s Championship Season Comes to a Heartbreaking End in an Extra-Inning Battle against Auburn in the NCAA Regional

Josie Foreman launched her 13th home run of the season and moved into a tie for fourth in USF history

TALLAHASSEE, Fla., May 17, 2025 – The University of South Florida softball team ended the 2025 season at the NCAA Regional in Tallahassee on Saturday. Josie Foreman and Kathy Garcia-Soto led USF with two hits each, but the Bulls (44-16-1) fell to the Tigers (34-23) 7-5 in eight innings.
 
Foreman became the only player in USF history to hit a home run in their final at-bat in the postseason. She joined Lea Mishlan (2000) to homer as a Bull in their final at bat. Foreman moved into a tie for fourth in the single-season record book with her 13th home run, while her 23rd career home run is tied for seventh in program history.
 
Garcia-Soto posted a 2-for-3 game with a run scored. Olivia Elliott and Foreman led the team with two RBIs each. Camille Ortiz-Martinez has reached safely in 17 consecutive games with a hit and a hit by a pitch.
 
Belle Sardja got the start in the circle for the Bulls and went 2.0 innings. She surrendered three earned runs on four hits. Payton Dixon went 5.1 innings in relief and tallied four strikeouts. She allowed four earned runs. Anne Long added 0.2 innings in relief and had a strikeout.
 
The Tigers got on the scoreboard first with a solo home run in the top of the first inning by KK McCrary.
 
Elliott led off the home half of the first inning with a seven-pitch walk. She stole second and moved into scoring position. Alexa Galligani advanced Elliott to third with a sacrifice bunt. Wilkes delivered a sacrifice fly to center field, tying the game at 1-1.
 
Auburn regained the lead with two runs in the top of the second inning. The Tigers extended their lead to 3-1.
 
DaNia Brooks led off the bottom of the third inning with a five-pitch walk. After Brooks advanced to second on a wild pitch, Garcia-Soto singled up the middle and then moved to second on another wild pitch. Elliott delivered a clutch two-RBI single up the middle. Galligani laid down a sacrifice bunt to advance Elliott to third base. Foreman hit an RBI single with two outs, giving USF a 4-3 lead after three innings.
 
The Tigers tied the game in the top of the fifth inning with a run on two hits. Auburn took a 7-4 lead in the top of the eighth inning.
 
Foreman led off the bottom of the eighth inning with a solo home run to left field. She cut the deficit to 7-5. The Bulls could not tie the game, and the Tigers won 7-5.
