Bulls Fall to Gators in NCAA First Round, 4-1

Box Score TAMPA (May 3)- The No. 27 University of South Florida (20-5) men's tennis team fell short in the first round of the 2025 NCAA Division I Men's Tennis Championship on Saturday, May 3, losing to the Florida Gators (15-11), 4-1.

In doubles action, the Bulls were swept by the Gators, giving Florida an early 1-0 lead. After tacking on another team point at the start of singles play, the Gators were answered by Toto Llanes, who secured South Florida's lone point of the match with a Court 6 win (6-3, 6-4). Hugo Car pushed his Court 1 match into a third set after winning the second, but Florida claimed the final two points to advance to the second round, ending the Bulls' season.

USF finished 20-5 to close out their 2025 campaign, highlighted by their first NCAA tournament berth since 2022. Five Bulls ended the season with 10 or more singles wins (Gughi Verdese, Elijah Cham, Hugo Car, Agustin Cuellar, and Toto Llanes), while the duo of Llanes and Ben Hudson collected 11 doubles victories.

Head coach Ashley Fisher is in his ninth year at the helm of the program for the 2024-25 season. Fischer has guided the Bulls to four NCAA Tournaments, including three trips to the second round. He was named the American Athletic Conference Coach of the Year in 2017 & 2019 after leading USF to the conference title in each of those seasons.
