South Florida Basketball Announces Return of Josh Omojafo to the Bulls' Roster
October 07, 2026 | Men's Basketball
The 6-5 guard started 32 games for the 2026 American Conference Champions
TAMPA (OCT. 7, 2026) – South Florida Men's Basketball Head Coach Chris Mack announced today that 6-5 guard Josh Omojafo, a key contributor to the Bulls' American Conference championship team last season, is returning to the Bulls' roster for the 2026-27 season.
"We're excited to welcome Josh back to the Bulls," Mack said. "Josh is tremendously athletic, rebounds, defends, plays hard and contributes in many ways that help a team win at a high level. With the unfortunate injury to AJ that will keep him out for the season, we had a roster position available and our players and staff are all-in to welcome Josh back and get to work."
The announcement comes after Mack's announcement in late August that transfer guard AJ Dancler (Coastal Carolina) will miss the 2026-27 season after undergoing surgery to correct a knee injury suffered during team workouts this summer.
Omojafo returns to the Bulls under the NCAA's new age-based eligibility rule adopted by the Division I and II cabinets for the 2026-27 season. Under the new rule, student-athletes who meet all eligibility requirements can compete for up to five seasons during a five-year window, with the clock starting upon their initial full-time college enrollment or the academic year immediately following their 19th birthday, whichever occurs first.
Omojafo began his collegiate career in 2022-23 at Gannon University, where he played two seasons for the Golden Knights before transferring to Robert Morris University for the 2024-25 season.
He joined South Florida for the 2025-26 season, his fourth year of college basketball, and started 32 of the 34 games he played. He averaged 11.3 points and 5.3 rebounds per game while recording 27 steals. Omojafo ranked second on the team in rebounding and fourth in scoring, posting 19 double-digit scoring games and three double-doubles as he helped lead the Bulls to a program-record-tying 25-9 record, American Conference regular-season and tournament championships and the program's first NCAA Tournament appearance since 2012.
The 2026-27 South Florida Basketball Season presented by Tampa General Hospital will tip off on Monday, Nov. 2 vs. Charleston Southern in the Yuengling Center. It will be the first of a 14-game non-conference schedule. Fans first look at a new Bulls team will be an exhibition game on Oct. 19 vs. St. Leo (7 p.m.) in the Yuengling Center. Highlighting the non-conference opponents coming to the Yuengling Center will be Alabama (Sat., Dec. 19), which reached the NCAA Sweet 16 and finished No. 16 in the Associated Press Poll. The Crimson Tide will come to Tampa as part of a two-for-one series following a thrilling 104-93 win over the Bulls in Tuscaloosa, Ala., last year.
Season tickets for the 2026-27 season may be purchased by visiting USFBullstix.com or calling 1-800-GoBulls. Single game tickets will go on sale at a future date.
The Bulls welcome 15 new players in head coach Chris Mack's first season at the helm. South Florida returns one player from the 2025-26 squad that went 25-9, reached the NCAA tournament and won an American Conference title (claiming both the regular season and tournament crowns) for the second time in three years. The Bulls reloaded with 12 transfer portal additions and three high school signees. The portal class features four players with a composite rating of .9100 or higher and a four-star rating, according to 247Sports. The Bulls' average transfer rating of 89.00 ranks third among Group of 6 programs, while the overall class ranked among the top 10 nationally among the Group of 6 according to 247Sports.
