CORAL GABLES, Fla., February 10, 2026 — South Florida men's tennis put together a strong singles performance but ultimately fell 4–3 to Miami on Tuesday afternoon at the Neil Schiff Tennis Center.
Facing a Power 4 opponent, the Bulls claimed three singles victories, keeping the match tight throughout the afternoon after Miami secured the doubles point. South Florida's wins came on courts two, three, and four, highlighted by composed performances across the middle of the lineup.
Elijah Cham earned a straight-sets win at No. 2 singles, taking both sets 7–5 to put the Bulls on the board. At No. 3, Stepan Mruzek rebounded after dropping the first set, battling back for a three-set victory 0–6, 7–5, 6–3, to give South Florida valuable momentum. Ettore Danesi followed with a steady straight-sets win on court four, 6–4, 6–4, keeping the match within reach late.
At No. 5 singles, James Newton pushed his match into a second-set tiebreak, showing resilience and competitiveness as he fought to extend the contest before ultimately falling in a closely contested finish.
Despite the narrow result, South Florida's performance in singles reflected a strong showing against a nationally competitive Power 4 program as the Bulls continue to build early in the spring season.
The Bulls now turn their attention to their home opener on their brand new courts, welcoming Georgia Southern to Tampa on Sunday, February 15.
