USF Women’s Basketball Edges North Texas, 66-63

Battle, Brito, Ingram, and Mputu combine for 62 points in the victory

Denton, Texas, Feb. 28, 2026 – The South Florida women's basketball team (18-11; 11-5 American) earned a 66-63 victory over North Texas (17-12; 11-6 American) on Saturday at the Super Pit.
 
Edyn Battle led the Bulls with 19 points. Carla Brito added 16 points, nine rebounds, and two steals while shooting 8-for-10 from the free throw line. Stefanie Ingram recorded 14 points, and six assists and L'or Mputu finished with 13 points, seven rebounds, and two blocks while tying her career-high with three steals.
 
South Florida forced 20 turnovers, the most during conference play and the second-highest total this season (23 forced turnovers vs. FIU on Nov. 3).
 
How it Happened
South Florida and North Texas got off to a slow start in the first quarter, with both teams shooting under 30% from the field. The Mean Green held a 13-11 lead after the opening frame.
 
In the second quarter, L'or Mputu made a jump shot to tie the game, 17-17, at the 5:45 mark. After North Texas went on a 5-0 run with baskets by Aysia Proctor and Mekhia Chase, South Florida closed the first half on a 14-5 run to take a 31-27 lead into halftime.
   
The Bulls dominated defensively in the first half, recording eight steals and holding the Mean Green to 32.1% shooting. L'or Mputu and Ines Piper each had three steals.
 
After South Florida built an eight-point lead at the 7:43 mark of the third quarter, North Texas responded with a 19-6 run to take a 48-47 lead entering the fourth.
 
The Bulls answered with a 13-5 run to open the final quarter, led by Brito's seven points during the stretch. Ingram made a layup with 3:18 remaining to give South Florida a six-point lead. North Texas countered with a 5-0 run over the next 1:17, trimming the deficit to 64-63 with 2:01 left. Battle secured a key rebound with 31 seconds remaining to help seal the victory.
 
Note-a-Bulls
  • Double Digit Scorers Led the Way – Edyn Battle, Carla Brito, Stefanie Ingram, and L'or Mputu scored 62 of South Florida's 66 points (93.9%).
  • Dominant in the Paint and on the Fast Break – The Bulls recorded 42 points in the paint and 17 fast break points.
  • Forcing Turnovers – USF forced 20 turnovers against North Texas, the most in conference play and second-highest overall this season (23 forced turnovers vs. FIU on Nov. 3).
  • Steal That Ball – South Florida recorded 10 steals, including eight in the first half. L'or Mputu and Ines Piper each had three steals. Mputu has recorded multiple steals in two games this season, both against North Texas. Piper notched her fourth game this season and 15th of her career with at least three steals.
  • The Bulls are Mean to the Mean Green – The Bulls have won the last four games against the Mean Green, dating to last season.
  • Moving Up the USF All-Time List – Carla Brito has 918 career rebounds, passing Mary Klinewski for fifth on the USF all-time list.
  • Eyeing a Top-Three Seed in the American Conference Tournament – With a win in one of its final two games, South Florida will clinch a top-three seed for the second consecutive season.
