Box Score The University of South Florida women's tennis team faced a tough road test on Friday evening, falling to No. 26 Wichita State in Wichita, Kansas. Despite the result, the Bulls competed hard against a nationally ranked opponent, showing fight across both doubles and singles play.
Doubles action opened the match, with Wichita State claiming the point after wins on courts two and three. Sienna Leeson and Margherita Marcon held a 5-3 lead in their match on court one before it went unfinished, highlighting a strong start for the Bulls in doubles play.
In singles, Wichita State extended its lead with a straight-set win on court three, as Margherita Marcon fell 6-2, 6-1. The Shockers followed with another point on court four, where Josefine Falster was defeated 6-2, 6-2.
The match was clinched on court one, where Melisa Senli dropped a 6-2, 6-2 decision against a nationally ranked opponent.
Several remaining matches were left unfinished, with the Bulls showing strong efforts across the lineup. Amelie Drukerova split sets after taking the first 6-3 before trailing in the second, while Loana Vargas led her match 6-3, 1-4 at the time it was called. Sienna Leeson was also in a competitive battle, with her match going unfinished in the second set.
Although the Bulls were unable to convert points against the ranked opponent, the team showed resilience and competitiveness throughout the lineup in a challenging road environment. USF will look to bounce back on Sunday as they continue their road swing at SMU.
