South Florida secured a strong 6–1 victory over No. 57 Penn on Sunday afternoon at the USF Varsity Tennis Courts, earning a key win against a ranked opponent and improving to 4–6 on the season.
The Bulls opened the afternoon by claiming the doubles point with wins on courts one and three. Amelie Drukerova and Josefine Falster set the tone with a decisive 6–2 victory at the top spot, while Francesca Miglio and Melisa Senli followed with a dominant 6–1 win on court three to secure the early 1–0 lead. The match on court two between Margherita Marcon and Loana Vargas went unfinished.
South Florida carried that momentum into singles play, winning five of the six matches. Josefine Falster was the first to finish, cruising to a 6–3, 6–3 victory on court four to extend the Bulls' lead to 2–0. Shortly after, Francesca Miglio delivered another straight-set performance on court five, winning 6–3, 6–3 to push the score to 3–0.
Penn picked up its lone point on court two, where Sienna Leeson fell 7–6(4), 6–2.
The Bulls quickly responded on court six, where Amelie Drukerova battled through three sets to win 6–2, 2–6, 7–5, clinching the team victory for South Florida.
Two more three-set matches closed out the afternoon. Margherita Marcon rallied after dropping the first set to win in a third-set tiebreak for the Bulls, 4–6, 6–3, 7–3. Melisa Senli capped the day with a hard-fought victory on court one, winning 6–4, 5–7, 10–7 in a match tiebreak.
With the victory, the Bulls add an impressive win to their resume as they continue the spring slate. South Florida returns home for three more matches this week and will look to carry the momentum from their ranked win into Wednesday's matchup against VCU at 5 p.m.
