Bulls Sailors Saw Challenging Conditions at Jen Harris Women's Team Race

March 09, 2026

TAMPA, FLA., MARCH 9, 2026 – The South Florida sailing team competed in foggy and challenging wind conditions at the Jen Harris Women's Team Race hosted by the United States Naval Academy Annapolis, Md., over the weekend

The Bulls finished 12th, competing in a stacked field that included several nationally ranked teams and squads from Georgetown, Cornell, U Penn, Old Dominion, Navy, Hobart, Brown, Harvard, Tufts, Stanford, and Rollins.

On Saturday, racing began at 1000 and kept on going until the breeze dropped below four knots at 1445 triggering a short postponement ashore. The wind filled back in and sailors got on the water racing until 1745 and completing 53 races. Sunday saw a lot of fog and very little wind. The regatta was postponed ashore right away. After some delays to wait for the wind and attempts to start racing, competition was suspended.

Skippers Kailey Warrior, Ghislaine van Empel, and Grace Jones with crews Madisen Hamai, Melissa Janes, and Cate Brennan went 1-8 in the competition, posting a win over Rollins College.
