April 13, 2026

The University of South Florida Men's Tennis team closed out its regular season on Sunday, April 12, with a 4-3 victory over Tulane in New Orleans, finishing on a high note in a tightly contested match.

USF opened the day in doubles play, where the duo of James Newton and Toto Llanes earned a 6-3 win on court one. Tulane answered with victories on courts two and three to claim the doubles point and take an early 1-0 lead.

In singles, the Bulls responded with a strong showing, picking up four wins across the lineup. Stepan Mruzek notched a 6-3, 7-6 (8-6) victory on court two, while Gughi Verdese followed with a 7-6 (7-2), 6-3 win on court four. Timeo Gaillard added a 6-3, 6-3 result on court five, and James Newton earned a 6-4, 6-0 victory on court six.

Tulane collected points on courts one and three, including a tightly contested three-set battle on court three that was decided by a 10-point tiebreaker.

With the win, USF caps off its regular season with momentum, overcoming the early deficit and relying on depth in singles play to secure the 4-3 victory. South Florida progresses to 10-13 on the season after the win.

The Bulls now turn their attention to the American Conference Championship, with seeds set to be announced on Monday, April 13. Tournament play is scheduled to begin Thursday, April 16.
