USF Men's Tennis Defeat UNF in Last Home Match

The University of South Florida men's tennis team closed out its home slate in dominant fashion on Thursday afternoon, defeating North Florida, 6-1, at the USF Varsity Tennis Courts. The match marked the Bulls' final home appearance of the season and served as Senior Day, honoring Hugo Car, Agustin Cuellar, Toto Llanes, and Elijah Cham.

USF set the tone early in singles play, jumping out to a strong lead with a series of quick, straight-set victories. The first point came on court three, where Stepan Mruzek delivered a commanding 6-2, 6-1 win to put the Bulls on the board. Moments later, Toto Llanes followed with an equally decisive performance on court six, cruising to a 6-3, 6-1 victory in his Senior Day match.

Elijah Cham added to the momentum on court two, defeating Youssef Labbene 6-1, 6-3 to extend the lead. Agustin Cuellar, another senior, secured the clinching point on court four with a 6-3, 6-2 win, giving USF an insurmountable advantage and sealing the team victory.

Play continued, with Gughi Verdese earning a 6-1, 6-2 win on court five to further pad the score. North Florida picked up its lone point on court one, where Hugo Car battled but ultimately fell 7-5, 6-3.

Following singles, the Bulls carried their energy into doubles play, claiming the point with wins on courts one and two. The pair of James Newton and Toto Llanes earned a 6-2 victory at the top spot, while Gughi Verdese and Ettore Danesi matched that score on court two. North Florida took court three, but USF had already secured the doubles point.

With the win, the Bulls not only capped off their home season on a high note but also celebrated their seniors with strong individual performances that reflected their impact on the program.
