South Florida Women’s Soccer Drops Road Match to Washington State

Maya Hindson recorded her first goal of the season
PULLMAN, Wash. (August 15, 2026) – South Florida women's soccer (0-2) battled Washington State (1-1) on Saturday, falling 4-1 to the Cougars. Maya Hindson scored the lone goal for the Bulls, marking her first of the season.
The Cougars took a 1-0 lead in the 13th minute after a South Florida foul resulted in a penalty kick.
The Bulls had a chance to level the match in the 33rd minute when Sophia Cabral got her head on a cross, but her header went just wide of the goal.
South Florida came out firing in the second half, recording three shots on goal within the opening six minutes. In the 46th minute, Delaney Tellex fired a shot that Cougars goalkeeper Sidney Venier saved, followed moments later by another save on a shot from Amelia Malkin. In the 49th minute, Maya Hindson sent a rocket toward the goal; Venier made another save.
In the 62nd minute, a foul against Washington State allowed the Bulls to level the match. Maya Hindson stepped up to take the penalty kick and converted to tie the match, 1-1.
A breakaway opportunity in the 66th minute allowed the Cougars to find the back of the net to take the lead, 2-1.
The Cougars added another goal in the 71st minute. Just a few minutes later, in the 76th minute, a free kick led to a header that found the back of the net, extending the Cougars' lead to 4-1.
South Florida recorded five shots on goal, while the Cougars recorded six on goal.
Gaby Rourke got the start in goal for the Bulls and recorded two saves.

Chris Brown enters his third season as USF head coach after a record-setting debut in 2024, leading the Bulls to 12 wins and coaching both the American Athletic Conference Midfielder and Goalkeeper of the Year. South Florida produced six all-conference players. He recorded the most wins in a debut season with 12 wins. Brown followed that success by guiding the Bulls to a 9-8-3 overall record and a trip to the American Athletic Conference Tournament quarterfinals in 2025, as South Florida earned a first-round tournament victory and secured three selections to the American Athletic Conference Preseason Watch List entering 2026. Brown spent 17 years as associate head coach (2007–2023), helping USF to three American Athletic Conference titles, eight NCAA appearances, and a 10-year streak of 10+ win seasons. He coached USF's first All-American, Evelyne Viens, now a Hall of Famer and Olympic gold medalist, and has developed multiple American Athletic Conference award winners.
