2009-10: Competed in 18 games, starting in 10 ... Missed 15 games due to a severe ankle sprain midway through the season ... Was leading the team with 18.8 points per game at the time of his injury ... Finished the season second on the team with an average of 13.4 points and third with 5.9 rebounds in 28.2 minutes per game ... Hit 48.5 percent (80-of-165) from the field, including 13-of-27 (48.1 percent) from 3-point range ... Led the team in free throw shooting, hitting 68-of-90 (75.6 percent) ... Also contributed 17 blocks ... Scored 23 points and posted a game-high nine rebounds at SMU (11/13) ... Appeared in all 25 games he was eligible for, starting 12... Averaged 10.2 points per game, third best on the team... Also averaged 4.4 rebounds, 0.5 assists and a team-high 24 blocked shots... Started in his 12/14 USF and collegiate debut vs. Niagara, scoring eight points and grabbing six rebounds... His six rebounds tied for team-high... Tallied his first double digit scoring game with 12 vs. Vanderbilt on 12/16... Also had a team-high eight rebounds... Had eight points, six rebounds and two blocks 12/20 vs. Murray State... Had 11 points, four rebounds and three blocks 12/22 vs. Oral Roberts... Had six points and team-high five rebounds 12/27 vs. Iona... Had seven points and three rebounds 1/2 vs. Syracuse... Before USF: Transfer from Maryland who signed a grant-in-aid to attend USF ... Originally signed with Virginia Tech in November 2006 but was granted a release from his National Letter of Intent ... Then enrolled at Maryland in January but the Atlantic Coast Conference ruled he would not be eligible until the completion of the fall 2008 semester and would lose a year of eligibility because of ACC intra-conference transfer rules.
High School: Spent senior season at Progressive Christian Academy in Camp Springs, Md. ... Attended Friendly High School in Fort Washington, Md., for three years where he was a teammate of current USF guard Chris Howard as a freshman ... Ranked 52nd nationally by Rivals in the 2007 class and 55th by Scout ... Rated the ninth best center by Scout and the 14th best power forward by Rivals ... Named MVP of the 2007 Capital Classic after scoring 24 points and grabbing nine rebounds ... As a senior he averaged 24 points, 12 rebounds and five blocked shots per game ... As a junior, Gilchrist averaged 16 points and 11 rebounds ... Coached by Curtis Malone as a member of the D.C. Assault AAU program.
