The South Florida SunDolls are the official dance team of the University of South Florida. Entering their 47th season in 2026–2027, the South Florida SunDolls serve as ambassadors for the university and are committed to upholding core values, fulfilling team responsibilities, and remaining active members of the USF and Tampa Bay communities.
The SunDolls strive for excellence through athleticism and artistry. Team members train in a variety of dance genres, attend weekly practices and workouts, and remain dedicated to individual and team growth. They place equal emphasis on maintaining a strong game-day presence and excelling on the national stage through competition.
As a member of the South Florida SunDolls, you will become part of a tradition of excellence, both on and off the dance floor. SunDolls alumni have gone on to dance professionally for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Jacksonville Jaguars, and Atlanta Falcons. Many alumni have also strengthened their interpersonal skills and advanced their careers through networking opportunities at sporting events and community appearances.
How do you become a member of the USF SunDolls?
We have transitioned to a hybrid model for team auditions. The first part requires dancers to submit videos — we only accept the Common Dance Team Recruiting Video for Round 1. Dancers chosen as Finalists will be required to participate in the final round of auditions in person in Tampa, FL.
What are your academic requirements?
To be eligible and have the opportunity to earn a scholarship, you must be enrolled as a full-time student at USF (at least 12 credit hours each semester) and maintain a 2.5 GPA. Our program is well-known for excellent academic standings — in the fall of 2024, our team GPA average was 3.77.
What are the time commitments for the SunDolls?
Our program is a year-long commitment. The season starts virtually in May, in-person in July/August, and comes to an end in April. During the school year, we practice twice a week in the evenings with regular Sunday practices added in the spring semester. Team members also attend workouts twice a week with our Strength and Conditioning Coach. The balance between school and dance team can be challenging at times, but with time management and communication with professors and coaches, it is very rewarding.
Do you compete?
Yes! We compete in D1A Pom and Jazz at NDA College Nationals.
Are there any financial obligations?
All team members are required to pay a one-time fee of $750. These dues go towards NDA camp and competition expenses.
Do you have any members from out of state?
Yes — the 2025–2026 team is made up of dancers from 11 other states across the country.
Do you offer any scholarships?
All team members receive a scholarship contingent upon eligibility. The award amount varies each year and is based on the program's overall scholarship budget, plus your tenure on the team, leadership, and community engagement/appearance hours.
