Biography

One of four three-year Starters in USF's secondary, along with Glenn Davis, Anthony Henry and Roy Manns, he will use a redshirt season in 2000 to give USF returning secondary experience in 2001...Has 27 career starts...A top notch corner, he was named 1998 Defensive Playmaker of the Year and 1997 Rookie of the Year by USF coaching staff in recognition of the true freshman who achieved outstanding performance through great work ethic, dedication and pride in his first year of collegiate competition Tested as USF's strongest secondary player in Spring, 1999 with a bench press of 325 pounds...Upped that to 335 in 2000, second only to Anthony Henry (340) among defensive backs...Well conditioned athlete, he enjoys a lean 3.2% body fat.

1999: Started all 11 games at corner and set a new school record with 18 pass breakups, including five in season opener at I-A San Diego State•..Matched his 1998 total with 51 tackles, including 36 solo stops...Career high 11 tackles at Western Kentucky (Sept 18), including two for losses...Fifth career interception  came vs. Southwest Texas State (Sept. 11) in a close 17-10 win.

1998: Enjoyed a splendid sophomore season, although it ended with a broken ankle at Georgia Southern (Nov. 14) in Week 10...Started each of his 10 appearances and earned second team IAA All-Independent honors...Led Bulls with four interceptions, including two against Citadel (Oct 3) and one at Georgia Southern before breaking his ankle...Also had 51tackles and two fumble recoveries...First of his four interceptions came in Week two against Valparaiso (Sept. 12), which he returned 45 yards for a touchdown...Had a season-high nine tackles, including eight solo stops at Hofstra (Oct. 24).

1997: Persevered to win starting cornerback job after five games of his true freshman season...Went on to start final six games of the season and finish with 38 tackles (27 solos), the most of any cornerback on the team and the third most in the secondary, behind safeties Anthony Henry and Roy Manns...Had two tackles for loss and three passes broken up...Had a season-best eight tackles, including seven solos against Georgia Southern (Nov. 1;)...Started to shine in Morehead State game (Oct. 4) with six tackles, all solo stops...Followed that with his first career start, at Elon, where he had five tackles.

PREP- Third team all-state and first team all-county as a senior, when he played both defensive back and running back. ..Had seven interceptions,  two forced fumbles, four fumble recoveries and one punt block in 1996...Also had 82; yards rushing with 13 TDs, and 325 yards receiving with three TOs...second team all-conference as a junior with 88 tackles, 625 punt return yards with two TDs and 562 kick return yards...Named team's best defensive back as a sophomore...A1so played soccer and ran track...Outstanding student who ranked 11th in a class of 235...Coached by Ed Barreo.

Personal- Born December 15, 1978 in New London, Connecticut, his given name is Bernard Artemus Brown...Son of Patricia and Norris Brown, of Jacksonville...Has one brother and one sister...Enjoys weight lifting.
