Tim Beck joined Brian Hartline’s first South Florida staff in December of 2025. He came to South Florida after three seasons serving as head coach at Coastal Carolina and having previously compiled 12 seasons as an offensive coordinator at Nebraska (2011-14), Ohio State (2015-16), Texas (2017-19) and North Carolina State (2020-22).

An Ohio native with 37 years of coaching experience–18 at the Power 4 level, he has helped guide teams to 18 postseason bowl games, including helping Ohio State compete in the College Football Playoff in 2016. Recognized as the nation’s eighth-best recruiter by 247Sports in 2020, Beck has been a three-time nominee for the Broyles Award, an award given to the nation’s top assistant coach in FBS.

BEFORE SOUTH FLORIDA

COASTAL CAROLINA: Beck began his head coaching tenure at Coastal Carolina in 2022 and led the Chanticleers to a pair of bowl game appearances and a victory in the 2023 Hawai’i Bowl as Coastal finished 8-5. Coastal finished 6-7 in 2024, playing in the Myrtle Beach Bowl. The Chants’ offense posted 2,242 yards on the ground and 2,616 yards through the air with 41 scores. Six players earned all-league honors including first teamers Clev Lubin and Matthew McDoom.

In his first season in Conway, Beck led the Chanticleers to an 8-5 record and the second bowl victory in program history. Coastal reeled off five consecutive wins, including the program’s first win ever at Appalachian State, while starting three different quarterbacks. The Chanticleers won five consecutive Sun Belt Conference games for the first time since 2020 and notched eight wins for the fourth consecutive season. Wide receiver Sam Pinckney became the Sun Belt’s all-time leader in receiving yards while also setting an NCAA record with 58 consecutive games.

NC STATE: As offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach at NC State (2020-22), Beck helped lead the Wolfpack to three-consecutive eight-plus win seasons, three-straight bowl appearances, and a combined record of 25-11.
 
Beck’s NC State offense ranked in the top half of the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) in scoring offense, total offense, and passing offense, while continuing to set program records along the way. Under Beck’s tutelage, Devin Leary set an NC State record for most touchdown passes in a season in 2021 with 35. He became one of just three quarterbacks in ACC history to post a 3,400-yard and 35-touchdown regular season. He also passed for 27 touchdowns in ACC play, a mark that led the conference, and he became the first Wolfpack quarterback to throw for four or more touchdowns against five ACC opponents.
 
TEXAS: Beck served three years as the offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach at Texas (2017-19). His 2019 Texas offense ranked No. 14 in total offense (465.8 ypg), No. 17 in scoring (35.2 ppg), No. 20 in passing (289.3 ypg), No. 12 in red zone (.920) and No. 7 in third down conversions (.489). Quarterback Sam Ehlinger ranked fourth nationally in total offense and was a semifinalist for the Maxwell Award and Davey O’Brien Award. He threw for 3,663 yards and 32 touchdowns, ran for 663 yards and seven touchdowns, and totaled 4,326 yards (2nd in school history) and 39 total touchdowns (3rd). The previous year, Ehlinger set a Texas record with 16 rushing touchdowns and posted 41 total touchdowns responsible for (2nd) as he threw for 3,292 yards. On his career, Ehlinger ran for 1,903 yards and 33 touchdowns and passed for 11,436 and 94 TD.

OHIO STATE: Beck’s Buckeye offenses helped produced back-to-back double-digit win seasons, going 12–1 in 2015 and 11–2 in 2016. His 2016 offense ranked No. 13 in scoring (39.4 ppg), No. 11 in rushing (245.2 ypg) and No. 17 in third down conversions (.467). The Buckeyes also ranked 11th in rushing in 2015. Quarterback J.T. Barrett set a school record with 100 touchdowns responsible for on his career and in 2016 was named the Big Ten MVP as he posted 3,400 total yards (2,555 passing/845 rushing) and 33 touchdowns.
 
NEBRASKA: Beck led the Nebraska (2011-14) offense for four seasons as the Cornhuskers ranked among the best in the Big Ten Conference and his passing attack amassed more than 10,000 yards with 86 touchdowns. In his four seasons as coordinator, the Huskers averaged 33.5 points per game and broke more than 50 individual records–including career marks for passing yards, completions, passing touchdowns, yards from scrimmage, and total offense. Quarterback Taylor Martinez set more than 40 school records and was named First Team All-Big Ten in 2012. 
 
EARLY COACHING CAREER: Beck served as wide receivers coach at Kansas (2005-07) for three seasons. He was promoted to passing game coordinator in 2007.
 
Beck came to KU as one of the most respected high school coaches in the state of Texas, serving three seasons at Summit High School in Mansfield, Texas. He was named the 2003 District Coach of the Year and, a season later, Summit advanced to the quarterfinals of the state playoffs with a 9-4 record.
 
Beck served as head coach at R.L. Turner High School (1999-2001) in Carrollton, Texas, leading the school to back-to-back playoff appearances and consecutive winning seasons for the first time in 25 years. Beck was named the District Coach of the Year in 2000.
 
Prior to coaching in the Texas prep ranks, Beck worked at Missouri State (1996-98) for three seasons, including one season as the offensive coordinator. 
 
Beck started his coaching career as an assistant at Miramar (Fla.) High School (1988-89) and then moved to Illinois State as outside linebackers and punters coach in 1990. He spent two seasons on Bill Snyder’s Kansas State staff (1991-92) as a graduate assistant.

PLAYING CAREER (UCF)
Beck played one year of football at UCF (1985), and he graduated from there in 1988 with a degree in liberal studies. He also earned a master’s degree in counseling and guidance from Kansas State University (1992).

PERSONAL
Beck and his wife, Tamara, have two children – a son, Jordan, and a daughter, Haylie Marie. Haylie is a 2021 graduate of Coastal Carolina and was a member of the volleyball team from 2017-19 and the beach volleyball team from 2018-19.
