James Wilson, who joined the USF men's tennis program in September of 2019, came to USF after serving three years as the head coach at Utah State. During his tenure, he was awarded the 2017-18 Mountain West Coach of the Year and led the Aggies to their highest ITA ranking in program history at No. 37.Â
Wilson also led the team to victories over TCU and UCF and qualified for the National Indoors. Two conference championships led Utah State to advance to the NCAA tournament twice.Â
Before Utah State, Wilson served as the assistant coach at his alma mater Texas Tech where his team captured the Big 12 Title and rose to No. 6 in the ITA national rankings.Â
Coach Wilson also spent single years as an assistant coach at UNLV and William & Mary having winning seasons both years.Â
Wilson began his coaching career at Texas Tech as a volunteer assistant with the men's and women's teams following his student-athlete career where he captained the team. He earned his degree in psychology and added a master's degree in sports psychology. He was a member of the President's Honor List, the National Scholastic Honor Society, Big 12 Honor Roll and the Commissioners Honor Roll during his collegiate career.Â
James is the proud husband of Cristina Wilson and father to their baby daughter Madeline.
