Mercedes Jorge enters her third season on the USF women’s basketball coaching staff and her second as director of basketball operations. She began her career with the Bulls as the coordinator of basketball operations in November of 2020 and was promoted in August of 2021. In her current role, Jorge is responsible for coordinating all aspects of team travel and overseeing the extremely successful USF Women’s Basketball Team Camp and High School Coaches Clinic. In addition, is the liaison with athletic communications, marketing, and community outreach, and spearheads the popular USF women’s basketball recruiting social media accounts, among numerous other duties.
Jorge arrives in Tampa following a year and a half with the Presbyterian College women’s basketball team as the director of basketball operations after joining the program in the summer of 2019.
She came to Presbyterian after two seasons as a graduate assistant at Georgia State. During the 2018-19 season, under new head coach Gene Hill, Jorge contributed to the team’s turnaround that saw GSU record the most overall wins (17) since 2003-04 and the most Sun Belt Conference wins (11) since joining the league in 2013. The Panthers also ended the season with an appearance in the Women’s Basketball Invitational.
A native of Orlando, Fla., Jorge played three seasons of basketball at Embry-Riddle after one season at Indian River State College. She averaged double-digit scoring at Embry-Riddle and earned both an All-Academic and All-Conference selection from the Sun Conference. She started 79 career games and averaged 30-plus minutes per game all three seasons. Jorge was a talented rebounder as well, posting 8.1 per game during her time with the Eagles.
She played her prep years at Lake Mary High School in Orlando, averaging 15 points and 10 boards per game as a senior, where she helped the Rams win four district titles and three conference titles.
