Michael Hogan, a veteran of over 25 years in the field of public and media relations, was named associate director of communications at the University of South Florida (USF) on Aug. 12, 2019. Hogan serves as the primary media contact for the women’s basketball and men’s soccer tennis teams and has also worked with the men’s and women’s tennis programs. He also provides media and public relations advice and training to USF administration, coaches and student-athletes.Â

This marks Hogan’s second stint in the athletics communication’s office at USF. He also served in the same capacity from 1999-2011, working with men’s basketball, women’s basketball men’s soccer, cross country/track and field and football, during his tenure, and was the secondary football contact when the Bulls reached No. 2 in the nation in 2007.

Hogan returns to USF after spending nearly four years as director of sports information at Florida International University in Miami from 2015-19. During his time, he was the primary contact for the men’s basketball program, the nationally ranked men’s soccer team, and the nationally ranked beach volleyball team, while also holding various responsibilities assisting with football media relations for the Football Bowl Subdivision program.Â

On an interim basis during the fall of 2017, Hogan oversaw FIU’s athletics media relations office and, among other responsibilities, served as the primary contact for the Panthers’ football team. During that tenure, he coordinated media relations during the athletics department’s relocation to Birmingham, Ala., due to Hurricane Irma.

Hogan also spent time as the director of communications at Jesuit High School in Tampa (2011-13) and at Siena College in Loudonville, N.Y. (1996-99) as director of sports information. He started in collegiate athletics communications as the first full time director of sports information/assistant to the athletic director at Methodist College in Fayetteville, N.C. (1993-95). Following graduation from college he served as assistant director of public relations/promotions for the Fayetteville (N.C.) Flyers (1991-92) of the Global Basketball Association. Â

Hogan is a 1991 graduate of Mount Saint Mary College in Newburgh, N.Y., earning a bachelor’s degree in communications. He lives in Wesley Chapel with his wife, Stephanie, and their two boys, Evan and Connor.
