The USF men’s golf team has its sights set on winning a national championship, and the program has a new assistant coach that can show the Bulls just what it takes to get the job done.

Head coach Chris Malloy has announced the addition of Jake Amos, who won a national title as a player with Augusta State in 2010 and helped the program win it all again in 2011 as a volunteer assistant coach.

Amos, from Leicester, England, played for his country’s under-16 team from the age of 12 before taking swings for the under-18 program. He started his collegiate career at Division II Lander University in Greenwood, S.C., where he earned Peach Belt Conference Freshman of the Year and All-America second-team honors. Amos got to visit the White House as a senior after helping Augusta State, a Division II program with an exemption to play Division I, accomplish the goal every player dreams of when heading to college.

Amos went on to play on various pro tours back home after Augusta State and said he jumped at the chance to pass some of his winning experience down to a young USF team that’s anxious to join the nation’s elite programs.

“It’s not necessarily a lot of things a freshman would know he has to do in order to win. There is a lot of stuff I can try and instill in these guys,” Amos said. “The team is asking me questions and that’s great. I’m super excited because I’ve missed the team aspect of things.”
